In the Mel Brooks doc that was running last month he said they had Gig Young lined up to play the Waco Kid thinking he'd be right because he was an actual drunk. (and of course a lifetime of screen appearances)

Problem was he was in jail for drunk related things when they wanted to start shooting.

Wilder said he could do the part and was there in a couple days.

Young went on to murder-sucide his wife of three weeks in 1978.

Might have been posted already but I just love Gene Wilder.

As a bird guy, I like how Gene jerks the prop "Thor" the stuffed juvenile American Goshawk around. Gene's goofy, animated, overreactions make him one of my all-time favorites. His marriage to Gilda Ratner was a sweet bonus though ended sadly.
