I'm sure this is in the game thread, but I think it deserves its own thread. In what way did Bowie think it was OK to say this...

Iowa State’s Darrell Bowie had a noteworthy Saturday evening.

The Northern Illinois transfer made his first start in the Cyclones' lineup in Iowa State's 97-80 win over Drake in the Hy-Vee Classic. He was good as a starter, too — scoring 12 points and securing eight rebounds at Wells Fargo Arena.

Of course, that's not what will be remembered the most from this game. It's his postgame comments about teammate Naz Mitrou-Long's late pep talk that will stick out.

"He just brought us together and told us, 'This is final stretch and step it up,'" Bowie said. “That just showed why they don’t deserve to be on the court with us and we really feel like they don’t deserve to."

Probably Drake's best game this season, considering the opponent, and another lackluster effort for 35 minutes by ISU, and he's spouting off this crap?

This team needs to take a hard look in the mirror and realize who they are, and Prohm needs to get ahold of their attitude and let them know they are no where near as good as they think they are (yet at least), and simply tell them to STFU.

I just saw this in a post Keith Murphy had made on FB.

Are these guys idiots or what? Prohm needs to get his players to stop making stupid comments like this. Drake led the game through several stretches, and Bowie thinks he needs to say this kind of ****?

Our players need to get over themselves and realize that they aren't nearly as good as they think they are. No one on the schedule fears them and many of those teams on the schedule will relish beating the hell out of ISU.

Well look no further than your "leaders" Morris and Long. Arrogant shiat talkers who don't really have the game to back it up (but at least they have cool hair). Minus Niang, and even McKay, Morris is very mediocre. Long is a career 36% 3pt shooter, which is very pedestrian. Respect Thomas much more for just playing the game and not running his mouth.

It seems to me after the Iowa game Monte said something like "Hats off to Iowa but we are better than them and they know it". In my head I was thinking, "and that is why we lost". We have a 4 year starter senior spouting his mouth like a Freshman and that infects the rest of the team. This team is in dire need of a leader to set the team straight.

Also ttfwiw but I've been on a lot of teams...I've been on cocky teams that kept the cockiness up all year through ups and downs and did great. I've been on teams that kept the cockiness up through all the ups and downs and ended up sucking.

I've been on teams that had no cockiness and respected everyone else and respected each other that totally sucked. I've been on teams that weren't cocky that were great teams as well.

I don't mind the cockiness I want these guys to be who they are but Prohm needs to get it in to their heads that no matter who they are they give stock answers to the media. These hacks in this market don't deserve any better anyways.

The line between cocky and dooshbag are the words that are said.

I want our guys to play with a little edge to them, and definitely with the confidence that they can win, but you can take it too far where it hurts your game and helps the opposition IMO.

There should absolutely be no tweeting anything before any game is even played. Morris tweeting before the Iowa game about how bad we were going to beat them only ignited a fire under Iowa and they played like it. Prohm talking this week about how we're not even looking at tape on Drake and not concerned about them sure didn't help either. I know that's not what Prohm meant by it, but Drake could still use it as billboard material.

And then Morris tweeting after the Iowa game that everyone knows who the better team is, that's even more idiotic than tweeting before the game. You have your chance to prove on the court who is better, you lay and egg, and then talk trash afterwards? Really Monte? Niang would beat Iowa on their court by 15 before getting cocky.

As someone else said earlier, NOBODY in the country is afraid of playing ISU. I have no idea why our guys feel like everyone is afraid of them. It is ISU that has to prove they belong in the national conversation, not the other way around.

This is especially aggravating from a one-year transfer like Bowie. A year ago he was playing his ball in DeKalb. He hasn't earned anything here. I didn't like Morris' post-Iowa comments either, but at least he's earned his stripes.

I hope like hell this team figures it out and succeeds this year, but someone made a comment in the game thread that I'm starting to sympathize with. Part of me is looking forward to flushing this whole thing and starting fresh next season. The arrogant, roll-the-ball-out-and-get-a-W attitude that has plagued this team for years is getting tiresome, and I think they've underachieved as a result.

This team needs to shut their mouths for now. If we had beat Iowa then maybe this would have been a little more forgivable. On the other hand, I think this was Naz's breakout game and if he can shoot half as well as he did last night, this team could win 11+ games in conference play.

Pretty sure those were quoted in tweets from reporters, not tweets from our guys. I also don't think Coach Prohm meant any disrespect to Drake with those comments (and if they took that as bulletin board material, it was quite the stretch).

I'm not thrilled with the comments from Bowie and Morris, but it's not the end of the world either. I think it's more important that we get our five spot figured out than anything else.

It's the underlying issue that is causing these comments. It's what led to the "bad" game against Iowa and Drake. That's why it's concerning when the coach shrugs and chalks up a loss to a team with statistically one of the worse defenses you faced all year as a "bad" game. There is a cause to the "bad" game that manifests itself in the crap performance against a very bad Drake team.

I agree.
I hope they figure it out and make a deep run in March, but this team is quickly becoming really unlikeable. I expected much more from a group of seniors.

True. That crap needs to stop. It's starting to sound like whiny Aaron White Hawkeye excuse crap.
