Coaching Prospects

Because Iowa State is in the Big12 and gets Texas recruits.

Washington State is in the Pac12 and gets California recruits. Glad that is settled.

Or does Leach have some magic ability to specifically just coach Texas kids? Cause last I check, the talent pool in California is pretty good too.

Well when your connections are in Texas, that makes Texas easier to recruit than California. isn't that a common sense thing?

That's a great idea, lets go back to the Wishbone...It sure worked for Jimmie Dean Walden...lol

Big difference between then and now. When Walden did the option attack was all over college football, maybe not in the wishbone formation like OU used to run, but option football was everywhere. A lot of high schools ran option so that means kids on defense were coached on how to defend it for years. Today's high school and college players do not see option football and do not know how to defend it. Look at what Georgia Tech is doing, they winning big with it. Their opponents only have one week to prepare and their opponents players more than likely were not coached to defend it at any other point in the careers other than when they actually play GT. Also, it should be noted that Walden's triple option attack actually worked. His offense and special teams were fine, it was his defense that was atrocious.

So his connections from 2009 (last year he coached in Texas) are stronger than what he has developed in 3 years at Wazzu? Half his roster is from California, but he can't coach them? But somehow he will get upper level Texas recruits to Iowa? Nevermind the fact that the landscape in Texas has changed dramatically since he left - TCU and Baylor being big players, Herman at Houston, Chad Morris at SMU.

But... common sense.

Read some facts then try to tell me it's easier to get better recruits at WSU again.

And yes long standing connections matter, that's why we can recruit Florida currently. We would have an even easier team if we played against Florida teams.

I think ISU must do something drastic if a coaching change is made. The spread will not work at ISU. Iowa high schools don't run much spread so the few recruits that come here are starting over. We need to run a pro style or I form of offense big bruising traditional rbs. Slows down the game and gives the defense time to rest. We will never have the speed of the southern schools we play so let's slow it down and give ourselves a chance to win. Dumb question maybe; but why has nobody gone after a Kansas state coach. Nobody does more with less than the white wizard at Kansas state.

Can we recruit big bruising backs?

We hit a home run with Fred. Does such a hire exist in football?

One observation? Fred went for transfers and JUCOs right out of the gate. He had a plan and stuck to it. After 5-6 years, football is going after the JUCOs. It's too late. Too many years have passed since the early success and the bowl appearances. All the early momentum was lost. It's time for a change, before the season ends, not after the season.

Are you serious? Unless we are going to hire a coach who is unemployed at the moment, what is the point?

Let the season play out and make a decision at that time would be my vote.

Confused because your link seems to say that California has more high-level talent available than Texas. In fact, your link shows that Washington has better local talent than Iowa does. In fact, it should be easier to get talent there than here. So, thanks for the link, I guess!

According to your link, he should be able to get better talent there than he could from Texas while coaching here. And has more local talent available than we do. He actually has something like 40 California kids on his roster but can't seem to coach them up. At the end of the day, his record at Wazzu is not better, one might say it is actually worse, than what Rhoads has done at ISU.

And if if he isn't smart enough to hire assistants with ties to California, he isn't half as smart as his reputation. So the local recruiting ties of the head coach are overblown.

Lmfao what!? There is way more talent in Big12 country. Especially when that's your recruiting area of strength.

Just in case you didn't know... 1,337 is a bigger number than 878. And that's just 3+ stars. You can find some players without that fancy star too.

Not according to your link. California > Texas, Washington > Oklahoma, Utah > Kansas, Oregon > Iowa. All from your link.

So... Pretty much no. You can read, right?

It appears you can't.

878 is not more than 1,337
94 is not more than 116

No math where you're from?

Since we are not getting Texas talent, and we're not getting California talent, time to hire a coach who can get Iowan talent. A real Iowan. Born and raised next door close to Ames. Passion, family values, loyalty and hard work. And all those things you associate with Iowa.
