My guess is that this was done prior to new NIL legislation going down to show that Iowa State is committed to weathering the storm in college athletics over the next 5-7 years.
It also means a few major budget line items are locked in for when the House Settlement comes down. Having CMC and Otz signed for extended contracts helps forecast future budgets.

Awesome news. Wonder if his buyout for other schools changed at all? Wasn’t it around $10m?

If I recall, Otz wanted the job after Hoiberg left, but Pollard said he wasn’t ready. I think many AD’s would had simply handed the keys over to Otz at the time.

Great job by Pollard to be honest with coaching candidates and for Otz for respecting the feedback and returning to IsU when he was indeed ready for the job

Pollard turns 60 in February. Not sure many realize he's that old already but like someone else already mentioned I suspect he retires around the time CyTown is completed or near it. I think he did an interview on KXNO last year and mentioned he wasn't too far away from retiring as after his heart attack he wanted to make sure he gave some time back to his family eventually. I don't expect Jamie to still be the AD probably even 5 years from now. He definitely will go down as the most successful AD at ISU and all the facilities upgrades that were done during his time will leave a long lasting legacy.

The prevailing story is Pollard wanted to hire TJ but Leath crash landed his plane into the conversation and pressed for a candidate with head coaching experience

I think at the time it was the right hire even though Prohm ultimately didn't work out. I've said it here before I think TJ getting some HC experience before returning to ISU probably made him a better coach by the time we hired him. We'll never know if he could have done what he is doing now if we had hired him when Fred left but it all worked out in the end.

Wait till our next loss. At least one dumb ass will bring this extension up.

There needs to be a Bingo card for the things that get posted ripping on TJ if ISU is behind or lose.

-Doesn't get T'd up or scream in the refs' faces.
-Watson had a big offensive day once and would have this game.
-'meanwhile, Nebraska's currently ahead or beat some bad B1G team yesterday'.

I think he will stick around till the Cy Town construction is complete (or close to it) and then wouldn't be surprised if he hangs it up.
Cy Town may take longer than you think. Lots of "economics" for the athletic department in the next several years will need to be addressed.

You could call bingo every game by the 1st half 16 and under.

Same "thru" year as CMC.

Wouldn't be surprised if these are Jamie's last football and basketball deals.
Good job out of everyone.
I think there's a good deal of thought into the length of these deals for Pollard, and he probably does one more deal if things continue to build.

JP will be 65 in 2030. Cytown will be complete with a couple years of operations, and both coaches will have only two years left on their deals. If everything is going well and Cytown is doing what it is intended to do, that's a great time to re-extend contracts out to at least four years on his way out the door.

If it isn't working out with either coach or the entertainment district funding model, JP retires and the new AD gets the opportunity with some time to sort things out without being saddled with any long term buyouts. The coaches get an opportunity to have a working relationship with the new chief as well to decide what they want to do.

Either way, I think Jamie is probably leaving around 2030 to enjoy his best life, having dedicated 25 years to ISU.
