Clones vs Bears

I don't think it's a situation where you fire him mid season. He does not deserve that. We owe him better than that. However, if he thinks he is going to pull a Bill Snyder and strong arm us into hiring his son as his replacement. I would think JP has explained that it won't happen anytime also.

I agree 1000% with you both about the mid-season firing and about not wanting another family member to take over

Not a Bluder fan at all, but Baranzyk(Spelling), can coach. But nothing is changing until Bill retires.

Agreed. Baranczyk is doing now what Bill did early in his career - beating higher regarded programs with recruits that they didn't want.

If Bill pulled the retire because of health midseason thing. That would be Billy's chance to audition, but no way in hell should he just be next in line.

I guess I'll keep watching for the off chance the JP is there and might come out of the stands and fire BF on the spot. I was on the fence about BF, not anymore, time to move on!
This was an attempt at noir humor, I realize humor doesn't translate well on message boards, therefore I am sorry.

Since we are going humor, I was about 8 rows behind Pollard at the Texas game the other day. Didn't look like he was in a firing mood, he was smiling, drinking his coffee and basking in the bowl win. And no, he didn't talk with me when he came up the aisle to chat with people. I am not one of the big $$$ folks so I am essentially invisible to AD's.

The only scenario I see Billy getting Bill's job is if he retires after making the Elite Eight, and the players all tell the AD that Billy is their top choice. Short of that, highly, highly unlikely. Next year will be an important year. Hopefully everyone stays. Send Bridget out as one of the top players.

Then you don't care about results. She is not a Bluder disciple. She played at Iowa. However, she is a really good coach. Runs a different offense than Iowa. She can get better talent. Treats the players the right away. Would be a home run hire and if Iowa get's her. They will kick our ass for the next how many years. Just like Drake did to us. That was not a fluke.

Don't think Bluder is going anywhere. Hawks are having a good bounceback year and are ranked #18. Play at Maryland tonight against the Fighting Brenda's. Will probably tune into BTN to watch. Could be a good game. Got a soft spot for Brenda (ISU and Gophers) and the Iowa gal Gustafson is worth watching. Bad news for Iowa is their PG Davis torn another ACL in December. Different knee than last year. Plus a medial meniscus. Really tough break for the gal. :(

For a change with Billy taking over would have to be a full dismissal of the staff at the end of the season. Jodi Steyer is the Assoc. head coach so a mid season would put her in charge (unless like I stated a total cleaning and that would also take Billy out) for the rest of the season. As to the loss at this time Baylor is beating the other team by an average 48 points.

I get the whole Baylor is Baylor is Baylor thing but many posts here are just a timing thing and not just because we took another huge beatdown in Waco. Baylor has totally owned us for years, this game was no surprise to me. What's different is coming into the game as a struggling .500 team out of NC that does not look to be one that will get to .500 in conference play. We have struggled all year without much sign of having a sudden switch flipped that will get us into the NIT or something. We might get hot from three and steal a few games like a mid major does but it isn't likely to be many.

Yeah, losing to Baylor by 40+ on their court is something that 15+ teams are going to do this year...that certainly isn't any reason to remove a staff. The point is adaptability...the game of women's college basketball has moved on from what Iowa State is currently putting on the court. While not to the extreme of comparing 6 girl half court to the current 5 girl full court, a coach adapts or gets left behind. It's frustrating to see the fan and university support without a tangible return on investment. If CBF doesn't want to leave, at least bring in some assistants that will adapt the team to the current game. CBF can obviously recruit...but can he change?

Meh, not upset or okay with it. It's just the way things are now and have been trending to for the last five years or so. Nothing I can do about it. I am less inclined to go down to games and have to rent a hotel etc when I can just watch on Cyclone.TV.

Not as optimistic about next year as some. Maybe back to a one and done marginal NCAA team but that is the ceiling IMHO. For all of the recruiting talk the product on the court is pretty mediocre. The fan base is more like a Bill program cult than a demanding basketball fan base so nothing is going to threaten his position. The staff can live off of it's reputation for another 5-6 years unless Bill decides on his own to retire. The only thing I have control over is my expectations and I have adjusted them down to pretty much nothing.

He's going to hang on until 2022 to get his $450,000 retention bonus

Question for you, what did you expect from a team with 6 returning player s who played the following minutes:
Bridget 1014
Mere 734
Emily 719
Adriana 187
Claire 116
Nia 183
Plus 4 new players. Coming out of non com I would liked to have seem a couple more wins since 4 of those loses were by an average 4 points but we did play our 4 new players a number of minutes. One of my problems with the staff in the past was they tended to only play 6-7 players so the next year after we lost seniors we had players with little playing times (see numbers above). My hope is our 4 new continue to improve and the 5 from last year with few minutes also play up to what they can and we at least make it to the NIT.

No matter when CBF ends his career I don't think Billy or any of his staff will be retained let alone one of them becoming the head coach. Just my gut feeling.

Pretty sure if this was happening in the men's program, the writing would be on the wall for CBF. Sad, but true all the way around. Revenue.

Revenue isn’t an issue. There are only two revenue positive sports at ISU. The paid attendance is still light years above most of the country.

Most of the country doesn't count several thousand kids passes in its attendance total, either. Not even the other Olympic sports at ISU get that special treatment.

I was referencing if this was happening in the men's program. Pretty sure the men BB team is a revenue sport.

It would be the same as Jr cyclone club members get into all of the Olympic sports.. we've been to several wrestling meets already this year with my kids..I would imagine they'd are all counted the same unless I'm missing what your are saying

They're not counted the same. WBB gets to count them. None of the other Olympic sports do.

The problem is that there is no excuse for the program to be at a point where there are essentially only 8 high major players on the roster and 4 of them are newcomers. It is not like talented players are leaving early for the WNBA. Buckley's departure did not help but there was no capable replacement for her at PG and their should have been.

I agree that Bill needs to adapt and play 9 to 10 each game once the roster is hopefully replenished. If you don't have elite talent like Baylor or UConn, you reduce the margin of error and improve your chances by having 9 to 10 good to capable high major players and play your hot hands on a game by game basis with a reduced fatigue factor and reduced burnout.
