What kills me about "effort" and "they want it more" is:

A) I don't see that. I still see a team that plays very hard, and

When I was driving home listening to TJ Saturday I was kind of shocked by him citing effort/physicality in ways to improve. He's got to be careful with that because if players continue to give it their all and that's the scapegoat in post-game shows he will lose them.

The thing that bugs me more than blowing a 15 point lead in Hilton is the lack of accountability.

I didn’t hear the postgame but from the accounts given here, it’s more just players not working hard enough. Is the coach ever going to acknowledge that some of his decisions may not always be perfect? I guess I am used to coaches having their players’ backs instead of throwing them under the bus.

It would also be nice to be able to discuss the problems without being labeled as a hater, or bad fan, or Steve Prohm.
I still contend they are fatigued. When your legs are gone, hard to hit shots, that is just a well documented fact. When we can't score in the second half and then get completely waxed in overtime tells this team doesn't have the juice for 40 minutes, let alone 45. Mental mistakes get made with more fatigue as well. It is disturbing to see TJ say they just need to work harder. I think they need to work smarter, and that includes the coaches making the proper adjustments and employing the right schemes. The players need to take care of the damn ball. NEVER, should there be 4 turnover in a row. After 3 in a row a time out needs to be called.

TJ will bring in more talent. And honestly, I think TJ is a better Coach already than either Hoiberg or Prohm. Even McDermott.

I think I would pump the brakes a little bit. I like the foundation TJ is establishing, but it's really early in his tenure here.

The collapse of the 1987-88 Cyclones was far more gut wrenching than this. That team had Jeff Grayer as a Senior. Lafester Rhodes. Gary Thompkins. Elmer Robinson. And some talent on the bench as well.

’87-88 was (largely)disheartening, given the roster (Woods and Born were solid contributors).

At one point, endured a 7-game losing streak … although it was no easy stretch of opponents, including eventual tournament teams:
at Missouri (1 and done)
Oklahoma (twice) (national runner-up)
at Kansas State (Elite 8)
at Kansas (National champ, although was only 11-8 entering the ISU game)

ISU won four of last five regular season games and managed to sneak in as a 12 seed, then got bounced (expectedly).

Still a good season. Way better than anticipated. Having lots of fun watching these guys fight, and expect that they will continue to do so.

Exactly. It is early in his tenure. Tough to resurrect Hilton Magic after it was banished by Prohm. We will have struggles as we build our Program. Some very nice talent coming for next year. It will be a process.

Another thing that worries me about shifting all blame to the players’ effort is potentially losing players because of it. Why would someone like Hunter, who has so much ability and puts in so much effort, stick around for another year of that?

Hunter is not going anywhere. He's a Cyclone until he decides to play for money.

If the person asking questions about my performance at work understands my work and is in the industry then it is a reasonable, even beneficial, activity.

If it is just some random person who doesn't know anything about my job then it has no value at all and should be ignored.

Uneducated candor is just stupid people giving opinions about stuff they don't know anything about.

A lot to dissect here.

Do you believe sports reporters/sports media don’t “understand” the “work” or the “industry”?

The OP or myself never said some “random person” that “doesn’t know anything” about the job should be asking questions. I doubt that would ever be the case in this situation.

On the last paragraph… I don’t see this happening often. Unless you believe that the media doesn’t “understand” the “work” or “industry”. I’d disagree with you if that’s what you believe.. I personally think they understand and understand pretty well.

You don't understand people wanting to know why odd things happen? Don't know what to tell you man, congrats on being a chill consumer
I think we just identified the issue here. I would love to know why odd things are happening in this stretch. That said, I certainly am not demanding like many in this thread.

Not sure how a person can dumb this post. The usual suspects I suppose but not sure if anything you said is controversial.
