I spent my freshman year in the dorms, decided on a whim to go through the formal rush prior to my sophomore year. After a year of relative freedom (as much freedom as you can have in an all-girls dorm with a dragon-lady head resident whose open door overlooked the stairwell...), I found out that sororities had ridiculous rules and customs. One in particular was proud of their "kissing porch"...the only (heavily lighted) place you could touch your boyfriend/date. I also found that the first questions asked were "where did you go to high school" and "what does your father do". Gag me...
And lest you think this was in the fifties or something, it was 1974 - five years AFTER the sexual revolution and the "summer of love".

I finished my time there as a GDI.
