Quarterly roundup of amusing comments I encountered on Cyclone Fanatic, July-September 2025.
By no means comprehensive, merely a sample. If anyone recalls a nugget I missed, feel free to add.
Key:
Bold is thread title (or summary of it)
*** indicates break in narrative flow.
Some entries have been edited for clarity, brevity, spelling and whatever else I deem necessary
In case you missed it: Notable Posts Q2 2025
Commercials that need to be shot into the sun
@CYCLNST8: Apparently, John Deere invested nearly 20 billion to interrupt all of my YouTube videos.
10 unwritten rules of an Irish pub
@JEFF420: Well, they aren’t unwritten anymore.
Joshua Jefferson broken arm?
@goclones69 69: Just ran into JJ. Looks like maybe a broken arm? Makes sense, he hasn’t been practicing.
@cytor: How hard did you run into him? Were you trying to injure him? (Jimlad)
Worker happiness
@heitclone: It seems as though social interaction makes people happier. These jobs are mostly ones that have you face to face with people.
@baller21: Ever been to the DOT?
***
@Pope: Off track: Years ago, I had my appendix removed. When I met with the surgeon afterward, he noticed I worked at Iowa State, and said he did his undergrad at Iowa State, then med school at University of Iowa, but only because he couldn't get admitted into Iowa State's College of Veterinary Medicine. I was glad he shared that with me after my surgery, rather than before.
cyclones500: Did you get a doggie biscuit after the surgery?
Pope: No, but he made wear a cone around my neck after the surgery.
Golf Fight
@CHim: I love that the thread about a fight on a golf course went off-topic and turned into a fight about golf.
2025-26 MBB computer projections thread
@Sigmapolis: Early reports on Toure and Batemon are good … Pleta showed up a little late, but at 6'11" and not 6'9".
@VeloClone: I would have been fine with Pleta coming back a month later, if that means he's now 7'1".
Pet love appreciation thread
@cydnote: My wife and I used to have a pet goldfish, we grew fond of it. We decided to let it sleep with us one night. Who woulda thunk? (after all, we did have a waterbed).
***
@nfrine: I only share the bed with cougars...
***
@Clone1992: My wife and I are happy to have our dogs sleep in bed with us. I often give up my own comfort to accommodate one or both of them being bed hogs. I wouldn't do the same for my wife (and probably visa-versa), so I guess the dogs win.
Starting 5 and rotation
@ClonerJams: How do you envision the (MBB) rotation this season?
@FerShizzle: The coaches have agreed to go with the starting lineup that the premium thread votes on. At the moment, Tamin is starting at all 5 spots.
Cooking myths and other common misconceptions
@Cyientist: My Grandpa’s foolproof grilling advice: pork chops - 1 beer per side, steak - 1/2 beer per side.
@Clonefan32: After a long day at work, when I'm sitting out back grilling you're going to have some rare *** meat with that rule.
New HP Printers
@JEFF420 (response to OP): How is there not a laser that will burn black on a white paper? … mfers can get AI photographs of Homer with boobs, but we still gotta buy ink cartridges.
Jamie Pollard: People are flat-out slobs
@Inthesystem: I do wonder if part of the problem is they can’t figure out the concession lines.
@LAClone: Well, that helps explain why we lost AAU membership.
***
@1UNI2ISU: If somebody is looking to get loaded, they aren’t going to do it on $12 tall boys.
@Cyched: Not with that attitude.
I’m the coach
@cydnote: Seems like every game, we have posters on here know more than the coaches. “Why three straight runs up the middle?" … “Why didn't we air it out?" … etc. Any takers on here want to draw up a game plan for beating K-State, before the game, rather than second-guessing a play call after it fails?
@jaj040: Nice try, Mouser.
South Dakota forums
@frackincygy: Is a trap game a trap game if everyone calls it a trap game? I mean... aren't trap games, more .. trappy?
Traffic flow
@JM4CY: Annual PSA: For the cars that pull in super late to the reserved lots, please don't be ******** to them while they try to find a spot. Some of us have kids stuff Saturday AM's and are trying to get to Ames as fast as we can. Please be nice.
@3TrueFans: Nope.
JM4CY: Fine, then I'm ramming straight through your table of burgers.
Referees removed from game
(KU-Mizzou punt vs. kickoff topic)
@coolerifyoudid: As long as there were commercials before and after each kickoff, I'm fine with it.
Arkansas State pregame thread
@CoachHines3: “I’m worried about this game” would definitely be words typed by someone on this board.
@VeloClone: Not me. I’ll use voice-to-text.
Williams & Blum podcast (Sept. 10)
@ChrisMWilliams: While we’re on the topic of country artists: Guess what the name of the SEMO quarterback is?
@brentblum: Uh … George Strait!
Friday OT: Have At It
@FarminCy: Nice to know there are others who prefer Thanksgiving over Christmas! Most think I’m crazy.
@Cyched: Well, you are crazy, but you’re correct about Thanksgiving over Christmas.
***
@Helser 83: I saw a turtle on a fence post the other day. Pretty sure someone put it there.
@Angie: Maybe a hawk was carrying it and dropped it very precisely?
@cycloneG: A European or African hawk?
I no longer think the (Big 12) sucks
@AppleCornCy: Texas Tech got a big win today, but there’s a decent chance we’ve been overrating Utah.
@ImJustKCClone: There's an even more decent chance that Utah has been overrating Utah.
Rumor mill
(OP): I have seen some rumors on X that Jeremiah Cooper has a knee injury. However, just two sources and one is a hok fan...
@Clonehomer: I hate these thread titles. I also hate speculation. But I hate knee injuries the most.
***Official Arizona vs. #14 Iowa State Game(Day) Thread***
@1TwistedCyclone: On Sept. 27, 1958, Iowa State defeated Arizona, 14-0 in Tucson. Adjusted for inflation: ISU 35, Zona 21. Go Cyclones!
***
@CYedUp: How is it possible that we have two injured kickers?
@alarson: First, one was injured, then the other one was, resulting in two injured kickers.
***
@Cyinthenorth (in-game): This could be the least lopsided blowout i have ever witnessed.
