Cell Phone Options

I use AT&T prepaid. Great coverage. If you buy a year at a time ($240) it comes to $20/mo. 16GB/mo before it gets throttled.

I buy unlocked pixel phones. Still on a 6a I bought 3 years ago that's working fine.

I switched to Google FI a few years ago. Best decision I ever made for cell service. Love the Google pixels too. Almost always have 5G, even in cornfields. $65 a month unlimited everything.

Dug up this old thread because I need some help.

Wife and I are paying $200/month with Verizon and both of our phones are paid for. I rarely use my phone for data but she uses it a lot and we don’t even know where to begin—-open to suggestions on new carriers, pre-paid plan, etc.

It really depends on how much tech help you need that the store provides. Verizon should definitely have a cheaper option for 2 people even with unlimited data.

If you don't need tech help in person, Visible or Google Fi are good options that would be significantly cheaper. I'm been paying $25/month for unlimited data for 5 years now through Visible. They run on Verizon's network so no real issues there. Just where Verizon is also spotty.

Ditto, I really don't understand why visible isn't more popular. I rarely have service issues. Unlimited everything, hotspot.

That’s crazy. I’m on Verizon with 5 people and the total bill is was less than $200 until someone bought a new phone last month. Now it’s just over $200.

Could you send me what your plan is from their site? Did you just sign up and switch online.
I have the $25/mo plan. If I recall they send you a sim card and you have to switch it out with the one in your phone now then call a number to activate or something like that. Pretty quick process.

Also I'm pretty sure it's unlimited. Maybe they throttle after x number of gb a month but I haven't noticed.

I use the cheapest one unless travelling internationally. Then I'll swap to the highest plan for a month or two

I have Total by Verizon for last 5 years with Unlimited data and pay $30/mo plus a $150 for phone. Bought through Walmart.

Works great for me as I don't use phone for more than calls, test and web surfing. And use mostly at home, so using WIFI data vs. phone data.

Might have to check out VISIBLE as they recently launched WIFI Internet service for something like $35/month.

I have 2 phones. One is a dumb phone on my parents' Verizon plan and one is a smart phone that I pay for.

On the smart phone, I have been switching back and forth between Visible by Verizon and Mint Mobile. The only time that I had an issue with Visible was in the DFW airport; my Verizon dumb phone worked but the smart phone didn't.

Heck, the unlimited plan with Visible came with service in Mexico and Canada plus a free day per month of like 200 other countries. I used it in Europe for the ISU Dublin game and it worked great.

On my smart phone, I have an eSIM so it is quick and easy to move to a different cell provider.

Mint is cheaper, but I can get a new phone with Visible if I time things right.

Man I’m so far out of the loop with this stuff—-can you get new phones through Visible? I don’t need/want one but my wife does. Thanks for your help!
