Cargo Shorts

Why are gold shorts a "vastly superior" product? Other than being currently considered more fashionable. They have less pockets, so less utility, and most of my cargo shorts are made out of a more rugged material than golf shorts, another plus. Personally I also severely dislike how short some golf shorts are. But that's less of a feature and more personal preference.

The wrong people are always wearing the short golf shorts, like when I was a lifeguard and the wrong people always showed up in a Speedo.

My only son who owns golf shorts wears them to bars but golfs in his cargo shorts.

It all has to do with the stretchy material, breath-ability, last longer (polyester vs cotton), no silly pockets, attractive women don't laugh at you, should I keep going?

On the "rugged" material piece... If you are worried about this, why aren't you just wearing denim?

Doesn't this swing both ways? What about all the people that wear cargo shorts but don't use the cargo pockets?
They're obviously supporting the brave men in our military who defeated the closest thing to pure evil the world's ever seen in humanized form (Hitler) thanks to the contributions of Iowa State University and cargo shorts! You don't have to like cargo shorts, America or the Cyclones. You can also go live in North Korea or Venezuela.

Those people exist? I have done laundry for six men and I swear they leave some crap in every single pocket. I keep the money at this point, I don’t understand 23 paper clips in one pocket, the animals better be alive, and why does anyone put a dandelion in their pocket and was it supposed to be my Mother’s Day gift?
If you were married to MacGyver that would all make perfect sense.

I think we're all united in our distaste for jorts.

From a purely utilitarian standpoint, this actually makes sense. Is this the son that's super-smart, is getting his PHD and plays D&D with his nerdy roommates?

This should be an easy one but I got nothing.

Personally, I've found cargo shorts and golf shorts have their place. Oddly enough, I prefer to wear cargo shorts on the golf course - I like the extra pockets to carry golf balls for mulligans and drops, plus tees and a marker and all that good stuff.

And I think golf shorts are just about right for casual social events or going out to dinner. They're just a tad bit nicer looking than the cargos.

He thinks he’s MacGyver but not even close. Granted my boys leave the weirdest stuff in their pockets, the husband usual leaves his pocket knife, receipts, or keys.
Last time I went to the airport, I was stopped at security because there was a pocket knife with a 1.5" blade in my backpack. They confiscated it and there went the money I'd saved by flying Spirit.

No, he wears cargo shorts or basketball shorts.

This is the aerospace engineer. He is also smart but just wears practical clothing when he needs to.

Now cycloneG's argument is starting to make sense. He's such a good golfer that he doesn't need to take mulligans or need extra balls. In fact, he probably doesn't have any balls at all.

He had to take his back to the car at Hoover Dam because he was gonna somehow take the whole thing down with a Swiss Army knife.

I don't know where he golfs, so I'll concede that maybe it's a dress code thing. If I got invited to play at some of the private courses or country clubs in the area I'd probably go with the golf shorts as a courtesy. But I usually play the lowly municipal courses where it's pretty much anything goes.

Yeah that is what my kids do. They always return with more expensive golf balls they find in the weeds and stick in the cargo pockets.
