Car Flipped Onto Its Top During VEISHEA

During the first riot back in my college days, it was my buddies that snuck around a fence at a party an tipped over the cop car. Them were the days.

I'm sorry - but if you're going to park on hunt street you better be prepared for something like this.

Is this a serious comment? I don't think you should have to shy away from Campustown if you wish to protect your property. Saying that flipping someone's car is acceptable is similar to saying that robbery is acceptable. The principle being violated is the same, that being the forcible stealing or damaging of another's property. The application of this is that I'm sure you'd be less than pleased if someone came to your house right now and flipped or otherwise vandalized your car, be them drunk or not, and whether you live on Hunt St or Huntsville, Al. No one has the right to impose an unchosen obligation on another and there should be no place where such an action is condoned or endorsed.

Wow, I completely agree, but holy legal speak batman.

She just needs to buy a different car. She would be stupid to pay for the repairs on what looks like about a 10 yr old Saturn. She could probably buy a different one for about 1/4 of what the repairs would cost.

Not to mention the girl actually lived on Hunt Street and may have had no other choice but to park there.

Let me speak a little louder so you can hear me up on your pedestal Reverend...

My point is not that it is acceptable. My point is that Hunt St is a bad place to park your car over VEISHEA weekend. That street is pretty much idiot central, especially during VEISHEA. It sucks and that kind of stuff shouldn't happen, but if you know Hunt St at all you should know this is something that can easily happen. I used to park on Hunt St and I wouldn't have been surprised to see my Beretta on its top someday. But I took that chance because I was too lazy to park at the stadium.

That's fine, as long as the people who did this to her car are prepared to be held up at gunpoint and beaten with baseball bats until they fork over the money to replace the car...

Is that really where we want to go???

I'm sorry for whoever this happened to, but if this was the worse thing that happened this weekend, then it was a pretty safe weekend. I'm sure that those of you who attended Veishea in the 70s and 80s did much worse stuff than this.

No, it's not right that someone would do this to her car, and she is obviously the victim here. That being said, it is not the brightest of ideas to have a car with liability only parked in campus town during VEISHEA.

Last Iowa-Iowa State weekend, I moved my car from my apartment on Hyland to a buddy's place in Fountain View. Disaster averted.

So are you saying that she shouldn't park on the street that she lives on??

Sorry m'am but you should've seen this coming...parking here was basically like parking through the East side of St. Louis. Probably should've just parked in Des Moines to be safe this weekend.

Have you ever been on Hunt St during VEISHEA? That's where the riots start. Not where I'd want to leave my car overnight with the multitude of drunk morons wandering around.

A girl I know got her car stolen this weekend. It was parked in her assigned spot by her apartment. It isn't that suprising though, there is quite a bit more riff raff in town on VEISHEA weekend than normal.

Did anybody else see that old van driving around town this weekend with something like "Veishea hawkeye style" written on the windows and then an acronym for VEISHEA on the window but I couldn't read what it said, but I'm sure it had something to do with anti-ISU. I'm surprised that thing didn't get tore up.

Thats where the riots start? Funny, in my 8 years in Ames, I can only recall one riot starting on Hunt Street.
