Call to Action: Fans

Attendance was only 12,066 last night.
To see Iowa State play the #1 team in the country in the Hilton.
Greg Mcdermott should have been fired the day after the Hawaii game last year, when it became obvious to anyone who was paying attention that he couldn't coach.
If this farce continues much longer the Hilton is going to be looking just like Carver-Hawkeye.

Maybe the slight lack of fan support at the beginning of the second half (before UT's 10-pt. run) could be correlated to the halftime entertainment tonight which was less than stimulating. Just an idea.

I thought people went to watch a Big XII basketball game involving the number 1 team, not the halftime entertainment. Poor excuse.
 
For many fans right now, Hilton Magic is just folk lore. They've heard the stories of the past great victories over ranked teams, but never actually experienced one. At some point, the team needs to come through and beat a top ranked team. How long has it been since that has happened in Hilton?

Oh would you just **** off for once? Good grief. Fans showed up far better than I expected and were in the entire game, even when it got ugly to start the 2nd.

Take the one-string banjo and shove it up your ***.

Last night was not magic, but it's the closest thing we've seen in a while - which is amazing considering the stretch this team has been on.

If we were being extremely literal, I don't think we've ever beaten a #1 in Hilton, since it's been 52ish years for that. But, it has been a few years since we've taken down a ranked team. Almost got one last night, though. Almost.

Rough, but a good idea. Today really isn't the time for the "our coach sucks" and "everything used to be better when I was younger" stuff.

Definately the best showing of the season but don't pat yourself to hard on the back, not even remotely close. Place was a morgue in the 2nd half with only a 5pt deficit, and then half the crowd left with 2 minutes left, wtf.

It wasn't meant to be literal. I should have said "highly ranked" instead of "top ranked".
 
My own fan fail story: There was a family of Longhorns near us. Seemed like decent enough people, minus that one flaw.

I congratulated the son (like 8 or something years old) after the game, assuming that he was a Texas fan, since he was decked out in his Texas sweatshirt. He told me that he was really cheering for us tonight, because he's really a Kentucky fan, and wants them to be #1. He only wore a Texas sweatshirt because he didn't have a Kentucky one.

That was strange.

Hate to rag on an 8 year old, but I don't think you're the one that failed in that story Erik.

Nonetheless, I suspect it was somewhat disconcerting for those in the athletic department that Hilton could not sell out for the #1 team in the country. For reference, 12,510 were in attendance for KU vs. NU last night in Lincoln. I realize that KU/NU might be more of a rivalry game than ISU vs. UT (although there is alot of UT hate on CF).

I'm not blaming fans. However, I do think we are starting to see the effects of the lack of success in MBB over the past few years.

It went well. I have a spot where I'm having to do the same thing as Mac: rein in the horses from some loose policies (some of which was my own fault). People don't like it, but I'm not changing, which they like less. As a team, we get along well, so it's going to work out. Really wasn't that bad. Just fun to watch a woman barely 4 feet tall glaring at me half the night.
 
Easily the best crowd of the year, but just like the bball team there is still a little ways to go to get over the hump.

Sure, the place was rocking pretty well, but it just seemed like the crowd gave up really quickly. If we would score the place would start going nuts, but then as soon as UT drops a 3 you could hear a pin drop. Back when the magic was really going, the crows wasn't just loud for the good, they would actually get loud when things started to slide and almost will the team out of a funk. If the other team put together a couple of buckets and was threatening to take make a run, the crowd would get fired up to try to pick up the Clones. I just didn't see that at all last night.

I also thought we faded a bit down the stretch. While UT was shooting free throws with a fairly close game in the last 5 minutes, sure the students behind the hoop were going nuts like they should, but the students at the other end of the floor were just standing around with their arms crossed. Even if they are at the other end of the court, they can still hear you! You know all those stories you hear about the hoop moving or the floor shaking? I assure you that wasn't because the 500 students behind the basket were making noise, it takes the whole place. Now that I think about it, wasn't it a ranked UT team we beat like 4 or 5 years ago when they missed several clutch free throws in the closing minutes and the place was really going nuts?

I wonder how many KU fans made the trip to Lincoln. That may have helped that attendance figure. I thought our crowd was very good last night. Yes, there were a couple thousand empty seats but I think part of that can be attributed to financial reasons. My place of business had 134 employees 18 months ago and as of right now we have 93. A lot of others in the same boat in central Iowa.
Anyway, great crowd and a great time in Hilton last night!!
