***Bye Week Discussion Thread***

Did the Big 12 create and release a 2024 schedule that included OU and Texas? Remember they left a year earlier than planned. It would be interesting to see who ISU had on their schedule.
Intriguing question. I tried a few searches, haven't found anything yet. No time to delve further. If someone finds it I'm curious to see.

It's possible schedules weren't determined if departure was pending.

I mean it’s definitely the many years of being an Iowa State that makes me find something to be worried about. I don’t think Tech is good, but I didn’t really think UCF is that good either. Their defense is absolutely horrid, I agree there. If we can get up 2 scores against Tech I’m not really concerned
I think people are kind of glossing over how UCF had two defensive touchdowns (I'm counting the 2nd INT as a pick 6 because it essentially was).....which credit to them, that's what you're supposed to do....Rocco had a very uncharacteristically bad throwing game....two turnovers and big runs by UCF were still not enough to give UCF a win over us.....as long as we're not turning the ball over at an insane clip, I think we can compete with most teams in the country.

the incyd zone guys mentioned the UCF defensive line was freestyling and not playing with structure, which threw off our blocking and caused a lot of confusion for us.

yall arent giving UCF enough credit. That O line is fantastic and the new QB effect is real. I think UCF wins this weekend and ends up bowl eligible. KJ jefferson was the problem. That's not a bad team at all
UCF has the talent to be a bowl team, heck probably even contend for a conference title in the future.....but there are better coaches in the Big 12 than Gus Malzahn

I don’t get the hate for Malzahn. I think offensively he’s a really good coach. They have a QB who can’t throw and are first in the B12 and 14th in the nation in total offense.

That team’s problem is the D stinks, which falls on Malzahn as the head coach, but I’d advocate for a replacement DC rather than a new head coach.

part of being a head coach though is recruiting the right guys and hiring the right people to put your players in position to succeed.

My big questions during the bye week…
1. what players get healthy? (And who remains out or walking wounded?)
2. When will we see Becht play a complete good game? For that matter…when will we see the team do that?
3. Do we see any upsets this weekend (I honestly don’t see any happening)

Yeah, this didn't age well. On the road, BYU was ahead 34-10 at the end of the third quarter before calling off the dogs and allowing UCF to make it appear respectable. Based on this showing, BYU will certainly jump ISU in the polls, and deservedly so.

It doesn't matter now - one game at a time with focus on the Red Raiders, who let one get away today in Fort Worth. In range to kick a potential game winning FG, they put the ball in the hands of a non-running QB, who tried to spin out of a tackle straight into a 320 pounder who lit him up - fumble recovered by TCU. Bad play call and bad execution - Kid QB is gonna have nightmares about that one for years...

Our updated ESPN Matchup Predictor numbers for the rest of the season:

vs. Texas Tech (5-3, 3-2): 81.5%
"at" Kansas (2-6, 1-4): 55.8%
vs. Cincinnati (5-3, 3-2): 72.3%
at Utah (4-4, 1-4): 64.7%
vs. Kansas State (7-1, 4-1): 53.2%

So…is KU starting to get it together or is KSU suspect?
I went. KU is explosive and physical. Just had some unexplainable errors. (Steps out of bounds on ko return at the one, balls falls out of Qb hand, dropped easy TD pass)

Having that UCF game before the bye was the best time to have a crapper. Get healthy, have an extra week to coach up and get a five week run.
