Buffalo Bills Damar Hamlin

I have no proof but there's common themes. A simple question leads to wondering if the poster lives in reality.

We also talk about how dangerous of a sport football is, but there are a ton of other occupations that have a much higher risk of death than football does. Higher rates of injuries too. People talking about feeling bad about watching football can think about that a little bit. Read an article that said Logging is deadliest profession in America. Do we feel guilty about having stuff made of wood?

Very fair point.

I actually was talking to a friend about this today.....not logging, but the idea some professions are deemed "heros" (like firefighters.....no disrespect intended)
...but many other professions are more dangerous, save people's lives, etc.

I do think the NFL seems to be one of the more dangerous sports with the least amount of compensation compared to baseball (meaning, contracts not guaranteed)

If the Players Association asks for more time, then I could see all games being cancelled this weekend and the playoff schedule moved back a week. But there is no way they cancel some games while playing others.
They won't ask for more time, that is just silly. What good would it even do?

They’ve known the risks for a long long time.
And they also like to get paid, which they often don't when they don't play the games.

Cancelling other games is idiotic trolling bait. There's a reason this has only happened twice in the total history of the NFL -- it's a freak, miraculously-timed event occurrence. It's not even limited just to the NFL.

I said probably. He isnt out of the woods, but they got to him quick. His chances are pretty good.
Ok I swear I’m not coming down on you but what makes you think “his chances are pretty good?” Just because they got to him quick? I literally had a patient die in the waiting room recently because he took a turn. This idea that because medical care is implemented in a timely manner that a patient will be ok is a stupid trope from TV that needs to stop. Yeah you’re right he could be ok. He could also die. He could also be alive but a vegetable or have limited brain function and never be the person he was. Even if my initial thoughts are correct and he has CC we don’t know **** about what his vitals are.

Again I promise I’m not coming down on you but this idea of medicine being able to fix everything is causing real problems in this country.

Just hope he returns as close to normal and with all his physical and mental abilities. Playing NFL football again is low priority. I’m not optimistic on his full recovery just hope he can be released from the hospital some day. All that was going on in the stadium was keeping him alive long enough to give him a chance.

I'm not saying they will. My whole point is they wont just cancel the games that don't matter. If the players decide they are not comfortable playing this weekend (as @CyJack13 eluded to), the PA will push to have all the games cancelled. Either all the games get cancelled (which I doubt happens) or none of them get cancelled.

Wow, didn’t know that. The NFL gets a lot of ****, much of it deserved, but they have planned for something like this even though it’s never happened. Kudos to them and they might have saved someone’s life. Usually it takes something worse before organizations are fully prepared.

Keep cave posts in the cave please

I have a question and I seriously don’t want to hear it from anyone that I am an anti-vaxxer because I’m not. But I have been taught that having questions propels research and research propels medical progress.

Statistically has there been an uptick in young people having cardiac events since the Covid vaccines were implemented? I don’t know what to believe honestly because there is a ton of misinformation out there obviously.

I don't know the rate % but an increase in cardiac events in young people was happening prior to Covid. It was largely thought to be connected to increases in diabetes, etc. which have been going on for decades.

I lost a late-30s cousin in November who was diabetic and they're awaiting autopsy results but the general theme is his heart basically stopped with no event.

Glad to hear them being referred to as "athletic trainers" and not just "trainers". That's been a big push in the industry and academia to get broadcasters always refer to them as "athletic trainers" to make a clear differentiation between and avoid people thinking that athletic trainers are the same thing as personal/fitness trainers at the gym. There's a lot of education and training that goes into that field.

Oh I don't know, because all the players saw one of their own almost die on the field from a normal hit that happens tens of times every game. I'm sure I wouldn't be too fired up to go cover a kickoff five days after that happened.
Did the NHL or baseball cancel when the same things happened? Hell I remember when the Royals minor league coach died of a line drive to the head which happens every few years sadly.

I heard on one of the national shows today that they didnt have a defibrillator available when Hank Gaithers had his cardiac attack. Its good to see people have learned over time to have these things available, even at high school events.
