Buffalo Bills Damar Hamlin

this game did have huge implications on seeding and playoff games. Who gets homefield who gets a bye. You can't deny that.

Yep this is essentially correct. This is a very rare thing that happened and as far as injuries in the NFL are concerned something that is doubtful to happen again. It was just a perfect storm of conditions that allowed this to happen.

We also talk about how dangerous of a sport football is, but there are a ton of other occupations that have a much higher risk of death than football does. Higher rates of injuries too. People talking about feeling bad about watching football can think about that a little bit. Read an article that said Logging is deadliest profession in America. Do we feel guilty about having stuff made of wood?

I bet the work it’d take to pull that off is impossible. If they can’t restart it today or tomorrow the only reasonable solution is calling it a no contest and moving on.
Yeah, the logistics of any reschedule at this point seem daunting. To me it is now a question of how you record the game. Does the current score become final, you mark it as a tie, or you don't record it as anything and those two teams just play one less game than the rest of the league.

Fantasy football considerations may be the dumbest thing I’ve heard even mentioned with this.
Oh I have heard people discussing the missed ads due to the injury. I have no idea how anyone would know what was missed or not...just a stupid topic.

Gotta be the latter. It's a no contest and you go to winning percentage.

Nah but very few people watch the sport of logging and get the perverse "high" of seeing a really good piece of timber being cut, whereas; in football people enjoy the big hits.

Just never happened would be my guess.

Plenty of other industries have a higher rate of death but I’m not sure about the injury statement.

Regardless accidents and freak injuries happen every day all across the country. We can learn from them and try to make things safer but playing the whataboutism game helps no one

I am fairly certain that is exactly the league's contingency plan. After 9/11, the entire NFL schedule got delayed 1 week, including the Super Bowl because there wasn't a scheduled off week. Now that extra week that is used for the Pro Bowl can be used should the season need to be delayed for any catastrophic reason. The commissioner has final say on when that happens, and what that looks like.

Something else to consider. None of the hosts or opponents for the playoffs are locked in yet. We know generally who is in, but none of the seeds are locked. No team or city has certainty when or where they will be playing for the playoffs. The design of the playoffs means there is inherent flexibility in the schedule. The only game that is set in stone is the Super Bowl, and the league would prefer not to move that due to the logistical issues they dealt with in 2002.

Obviously Hamlins health is what’s important but in terms of playoff stakes and the game being cancelled mostly impacts KC and Baltimore.

KC will only benefit if they win and the Bills lose Sunday (assuming they play) which would make them a 1 seed. If they lose Saturday, they are the 3 seed. A Bengals L yesterday would’ve meant guaranteed home field advantage until AFC Championship.

Ravens lose out on the opportunity to win the AFC North and get the 3 seed of the Bengals lost last night.

The game being cancelled (which is completely justifiable) would have an incredible impact on the playoff picture. I would argue the 4 seed (Titans/Jags) is the only one that isn’t impacted by the outcome.

If the postponed game is a tie, a Buffalo loss, or a no contest, KC benefits greatly as a win against the Raiders gives them the #1 seed regardless of how Buffalo does this weekend. KC would have a better winning percentage based on any of those scenarios. Same scenarios also give Cincy the division regardless of the week 18 game.

If the game last night is no contest, and both KC and Buffalo play, and win, this coming weekend, KC would be the 1 seed.

This is how it looks to me as well. If you don't finish the game, you hand KC control of its own destiny for the 1 seed.

The guys on Ax men say hi. LOL it's not a great show but it's a ok watch.

All I'm saying is that Booger and the other two looked extremely uncomfortable, ESPN could have cut away and scrolled a message. I'm not zeroing in on anything, it was an observation I made last night while watching things unfold live.
I realize that is their job, but I would expect them to be uncomfortable. They could have been watching a live feed of the medical people at work on the field and trying to express their feelings at the same time.

I have a hard time being critical of people who are trying to do their job while at the same time experiencing raw emotions. It would be impossible to prepare if you were Troy/Joe or the 3 studio folks.

IMO better to focus prayers or positive thoughts on Damar Hamlin's recovery and his family, friends and teammates.

right. If it is a tie and assuming that KC, Buff and Cinci all win then the seeds are KC -1 Buff - 2 and Cinci -3... but I bet the NFL would want to schedule the Buff/Cinci game after week 18 if they all win. They have an option to move all the playoffs back a week by removing the Superbowl bye week... If any of the teams lose this Sunday the game will be canceled.
Which I guess the league would want to get ready for some sketchy calls going against each team Sunday.

FanDuel has voided all bets on the game, which is the right call.
So you agree with me but you dumb my post. Ok...OK....

It's no different than the Covid year stuff, if the game gets rescheduled soon then fine, if it doesn't then fantasy is over where the scores stood Monday night when he got hurt.

I'd prefer that Buffalo not play again until the playoffs, knowing full well that they'd be giving up the potential for home field advantage. That said, the Patriots need to win in order to get in the playoffs, so it's probably not as simple as just not playing. There's no good answer here.
