Bubu Suing ISU

Will be an interesting case. Because he did basically lose his senior year because of this but I have no idea what that will translate to.

Senior year where he could play somewhere, plus not getting to the D League until a lot later. He has a strong case.

Leath's delay in handing down the ruling was in part because he took an ISU trip to Africa. He advised Palo's lawyer, Matt Boles, of the anticipated schedule and there as no objection. If Palo was worried about the transfer schedule, he should have said something at the time.

These are difficult cases and Leath had to make a difficult decision. I can't find the lawsuit online. Looks like it has not yet been served.

Bubu is starting for the best team in the D-Leauge, saying he didn't possibly lose wages is wrong.
Curtis Stinson has been a D league all star for years. No team is giving him an NBA deal just like no team wold consider giving one to Palo. The D league is not a development league. It is literally a pool of replacement players for the desperate teams at the bottom of the standings.

Unfortunately true. The D-League could be something better with some reworking (although I think better salaries would have to be the main issue to prevent people from running to Europe).

Stay tuned. Something is in the works that may make the D-League look a little more like minor league baseball. The jury is still out if they will go far enough.

No, I think he was right. Most threads don't victim blame and call sex "consensual" when a female was so drunk she couldn't stand up straight, and two dudes still double-teamed her.

I agree with CyDude - lol at Bubu losing opportunities due to ISU. He was a walk-on who couldn't get a scholarship anywhere else, we gave him a scholarship, which he lost by being an idiot. Whether or not it was rape, he was an idiot.

Mike Taylor didn't whine and complain because McDermott kicked him out for ganking cough syrup. Later on he praised ISU and the decision, calling himself stupid. Some people just are a little better at self-reflection than others.

Don't be silly, of course he could have. He ended up signing a contract to play in the NBDL but you think he could not have gotten a scholarship anywhere but ISU?

His options coming out of high school weren't overly strong if I remember right. He did develop into a solid player. Did he have any/many offers?

You understand that there are truly only two sides to this, correct? You either support Bubu or you don't. This isn't a conversation about a complex issue with wildly varying opinions from all sides, so please, quit trying to frame it as such.

I make no bones about it, Bubu is guilty as sin in my mind. You strip away the hometown walkon status with the cute nickname and all you have left is a kid who took advantage of a girl and then turned around and used his lawyers to slut shame her to the point that he got away with it.

There was no ISU administration vendetta against Bubu, there was no plan just to hold the kid back for nefarious reasons - they simply looked through the information and came to the basic conclusion that this was not the type of person they wanted associated with their university.

It's not a difficult situation to read between the lines on.

So their response was to not only keep him at that university but continue to pay for his education there as well?

If they felt he was guilty, he should have been removed from school to protect other potential victims or at the very least no longer pay for his education there.

That was my point. Most don't explicitly say Yes, they just go with the flow.

Having someone stop the process and explicitly say "Yes I want to have sexual relations" would be a mood killer.

According to the findings of Administrative Law Judge John Priester in a separate case over sexual misconduct sanctions ISU handed Palo, Cruise raped the alleged victim and left the room. Palo came into the room immediately afterward, Priester found, and had sex with the still-traumatized woman, who did not verbally consent but did not convey a lack of consent. - See more at: http://amestrib.com/news/trial-set-palo-defamation-suit#.dpuf
Doesn't sound like there was much of a mood to kill. Reading this gives me little sympathy for Bubu. This is the findings of the judge who did not punish Bubu's because he is required to have a higher standard of proof. He did conclude that there was a rape and that at very least Bubu took advantage of the situation immediately afterwards while the girl was still traumatized. I've seen a few cases of totally made up rape charges, they looked nothing like this. Just because he wasn't convincted doesn't mean he didn't violate the code of student conduct and basic human decency. Bubu definitely won't get anything for his "damaged" pro career and hopefully will loose the case.

There are no winners here in this situation. Unfortunately, everyone involved loses, no matter what.

No matter what we think, this will end up costing ISU/BOR. This is not a case about rape. It is a case about poor leadership/judgement on the part of ISU/BOR. The rape charge was thrown out of court for evidence tampering (among other things) and Bubu was even allowed to play BB (even in the NCAA tourney against Notre Dame and Ohio Street). Like the case against the accuser and the accuser's mother, this case will be settled out of court. Bubu will have prevailed multiple times. Hopefully, we will then move on.
