Bring Back All-Time Great for 2021, Who We Adding?

I'm "old-ish" enough to remember Crutchfield well, but I don't remember that nugget. Elaboration encouraged.
Heck of a runner. Huge. Earl Campbell style. His work ethic was weak. Heard stories about Waldorf, his JUCO (I grew up near there) but even more from his days at ISU. I remember people talking about Donnie Duncan. One of the situations that they brought up was DC. This was a person who was associated with the program back then. They mentioned how DC would just refuse to practice if he thought it was cold outside, and DD allowed it since he was a star. Had heard how at Waldorf, he was a gamer but practice was more of a bother.

I think it has to be someone on the D line.
KO would obviously be an upgrade, but the o-line is already talented and deep (who ever thought that would be the case here 2 years ago). I love Lazard and Butler, but adding them takes Milton, Shaw, or a TE off the field, I'm pretty confident in our WRs as they are. A second lockdown CB just seems greedy. Also it is easier to compensate for a weakish CB if you have a stud D line.
Berryman and McDonald are kind of the same player, so I'm going with Reggie or Jaquan. Or move Enyi outside and put Tuba, Lima, Carstens or personal favorite Nick Leaders in the middle.

I said KO (or Hakeem) but you make good points and Reggie would be awesome.

I’m reading this thread, and it’s really interesting. I really like some of the suggestions—and then I think, but wait a second.

Tuba Rubin would be great. Except we may well have three guys as good as he was.

KO would be great, especially at guard. Except, well, Anthony Simmons and Jake Remsburg are already road graders.Trevor Downingis no slouch.

Hakeem or Lazard would be great…except that guys like Joe Scates and Darien Porter are about to explode—and would offer things those two didn’t.

Marcus Robertson would be a dang good choice for filling a secondary hole…but then you have to sit someone like TJ Tampa.

JJ Moses? Deon Silas and Jaylin Noel.

My personal preference might be upgrading pass protection at LT with Karl Nelson or Keith Sims…but I think Grant Treiber or Tyler Miller might well have that covered.

My, how the times have changed in Ames, Iowa under Head Coach Matt Campbell.

First thought is a Kicker Shudek, Giffords or Cole Netten but Connor has been consistent (not perfect) inside 40 yards. Nose guard is another good option as that frees up the rest of the defense to flow and attack aggressively. However, I would pick Keith Sims or KO. Even though the current line is solid, you can never go wrong by adding a future NFL lineman. KS or KO would open up more holes for Breece Hall to tear through and give Brock more time in the pocket. The defense would have to stack the box to stop Breece and blitz to reduce the time Brock has to pick apart the secondary. That means one on one coverage for our WR and TE's and more 20+ yard plays.

This is a good one...

If we start with opportunities to improve this team I would probably say...

1) DL: You can always have another pass rusher and interior depth
2) CB: Opposite Johnson
3) WR: Big, deep threat
4) Return Man: Some one to replace Nwangwu

(NOTE: These are all players I saw play... I am sure there are others from previous years that were before my time).

DL: Jason Berryman or David Irving
The three guys I would put as options here are Jason Berryman, David Irving, and Ahtyba Rubin. Probably lean toward Berryman or Irving to add one more pass rusher.

CB: Ellis Hobbs
I would probably go Ellis Hobbs here... that would be a nice 1-2 at CB.

WR: Hakeem Butler
Purdy has improved by not having him, but if we could add a player like this to the current team (maybe one of the young guys steps up this year?) that would be incredible. From a pure numbers perspective, Brock had his best stretch with Butler on the field.

Return Man: James McMillion
The return game set us up at key moments last year (first game vs. OU, baylor comeback). We may have had 1 or 2 more losses if it was not for the incredible returns by Nwangwu last season. (I hope that a combination of effective returns and better success kicking the ball keeps us about neutral on this one overall). Here I have to take James "The Eel" McMillion (great memories from when I was a kid growing up in Ames).

Force me to pick one... I would probably go Jason Berryman. Give me another big, pass rusher at DE. You can never have enough.

How many yards would Breece run for if our line currently had Osemele and Keith Sims? Screw it, throw in Oliver Ross while we’re at it.

But if it’s more about pure need give me Ellis Hobbs or Hakeem.
