Seems extremely excessive. Break a mailbox or 2 and have poasibility of a year in the slammer. A lot of pranks could result in 200 damage real easy.
I imagine that isn't the actual penalty in most cases. But it does certainly help the prosecutor when forcing a defendant into a plea deal.

I saw a video from a law course and the presenter was saying cops yell "stop resisting" so bystanders think the person is resisting. Same guy also said cops have arrested people for videoing them even though that's not illegal. You and I don't agree on much but that seems like a catch-all charge for pissing off a cop by not doing everything they say.

If you stand still, resisting arrest, not following cops commands :)

If his record is clean, he can/will get the charges reduced for something “minor” like this depending on what the story is.
