Brandon Jensen back on team

Maybe he had a large semester class load and wanted to get whatever big classes out of the way and not worry about losing time to spring ball and such. Student before athlete, right?

Great news for the ISU defense. Any added depth at the DL is big, but when it's an experienced player it's even better. It isn't like the defense played lights out last year, but his experience should help cushion the blow of Coe and Irving leaving at least a little bit.

Sounds like Cousin and Jensen at NG. With Trent as a backup. That position is set. Now for the DT position. Looks like it is Robbie Garcia, backed up by Aka and Ayeni. Things are looking better. We have a 3 deep that does not look that bad on the interior. And the DE's don't appear that bad with the Juco's.

This is good. It at least gives us a little quality depth. I kind of wonder if he'll back up Cousin at NG or if he'll start at the three-tech. I think he played the three-technique before last season. Regardless, this solves some of the problem. If two of Aka, Trent, Ayeni, or Garcia are serviceable by the season that would be huge.

Interesting development.
Makes you wonder what exactly changed.

Is there any chance at all Coe earns his way back? He was on the sidelines at the spring game.

Was Coe the guy in the black tank top? He was looking all friendly with lots of players, but stayed pretty much on the end of the sideline. I thought it was a former player, but couldn't see him well enough to know who, and never even thought it might be Coe.

Wendall Taiese is the other guy that I would like to end up on at DT. The guy is huge and very aggressive in his recruiting video. The DT position is probably the easiest one to pick up in terms of scheme if he can handle the beating and get some technique over the summer. Maybe a little desperate, but do not want to go through another season of opponents running straight up the gut for 7 yards a carry.

Finally some good news on the DT position. I wonder how long it will take to get him back to playing shape though. I bet a big guy like that loses muscle mass pretty fast when they are not lifting every day. Of course he may still be doing some lifting, who knows. Fortunately Fall is a long ways off.

Oh ya, and WTF did that come from? Him coming back is almost as mysterious as him leaving in the first place.

Nah. One summer with Yancy and he'll be better than ever.

If anything, a little time off may have helped him rest up and clear his head. I bet he'll be a force on the d line. This is great news.

I'd be surprised if Taiese would move over full time. I could see him playing some snaps there, but I truly believe moving him off of the o-line completely would be robbing him of a shot at the NFL. My guess is as good as yours though.

The Register had a picture of him on the sidelines

Don't think so, the team asked him to leave when they saw him there.
Wow, didn't hear that. Well if he's a cancer then obviously don't want him back.

Am I the only one who realized that he only had 18 tackles and one sack last year? Those are terrible numbers for a guy who started every game. He is a mediocre player. We will still suck.

Maybe the time off made him realize how much he missed the game. Plus he might have had remorse and felt he was letting his teammates down by not playing his senior year.

This is a huge boost. Because it gives us another starter back from last year. And he is a known quantity. Between Coe, Irving, and Jensen, my belief is that we got the best one of the three when it comes to work ethic and dependability and playing within the team concept.

This is the best news we could get. Period. Much better than signing another Juco DT.

Thank you Brandon Jensen.

I think he was graduating in May. Maybe he wanted to be out of school and get a job, but had a change of heart and decided grad school would be good idea.

You do not understand how that position works I take it?

He's a nose guard. His job is to eat up space in the middle, tackles are just a bonus.

I don't know.

When you look at who was going to surplant him - Coe had 37 tackles and 0 sacks. Irving had 19 and 2 sacks.

Is a NG expected to have the tackles of DT, DEs?

(Wow - we only had 15 sacks the entire season. Just 15?)
