Brackins Projected @ #12

Tell me how many 7 footers dominate in the paint in the NBA.

Shaq and???

The 7 footers that are good to very good can step out and hit a 15 footer. Ming, Ilgauskas, Gasol, Duncan, Bargnani, Bogut, Nowitzki, and Brad Miller. They all have the ability to shoot.

Thabeet does not have that. He is a poor man's Dikembe Mutumbo. Look at the guys over 7 feet tall in NBA history that can't shoot very well.

Muresan, Bradley, Haywood, Collins, O'Bryant, Mihm, Diop, etc

Thabeet will still be a big time defensive player in the NBA...the dominate post scorers will still get their share of points, but Thabeet's biggest influence is on defense...his offense started out very raw, but it improving from poor to average...I doubt he'll be an all star in the NBA, but he'll be a solid center for somebody...and center's go like hotcakes in the NBA draft, whether they should or not.

Chad Ford says he's hot. Projects him between picks 20 and 35.

NBA Draft Watch: Who's hot, who's not? - ESPN

Was about to post this link! I think if this is a true indicator of his draft status he'd be better off not risking being passed over in the 1st round and staying another year. There is a big difference between 1st and 2nd round, mostly guarunteed money and length of contract. 2nd rounders usually aren't even guarunteed a roster spot until they earn it in pre-season camp.

Brackins plays on a pretty awful team, but scouts aren't holding that against him -- they like his size, versatility and increased effort on the glass. He's not a lock for the first round, but I think he's got a realistic shot of going somewhere between Nos. 20 and 35 in this year's draft.

OUCH!!

All of the posts referring to Brackins means only one thing: We definitely need to start a chant of "one more year", to show him that we really adore him here at ISU, and maybe, just maybe, he will come back because he loves Iowa State so much

I think there is something to this. From my seat in Hiton, I'm not sure Craig understands how much the fans appreciate him, and how we take into account his lack of supporting cast. The losses really affect him it seems, and a nice big chant like that would get his attention.

Bottom line - MONEY!!!!!

IMO, if he's not a top 15 pick, he should go back to school for a year and come out in 2010 when the class will be weaker then this year especially at the 4 position. Problem this year, he's projected somewhere between 5th and 10th best power forward if he were to come out. Well, that type of range can have you moving up a board or falling and once begin falling, you can count the millions of reasons to either come back or stay however you look at it.

For those that said he's old for his class - consider that Tyler Hansbourgh is 23, brackins is 21 not that ancient.

The big thing is draft position - because at this point its a mute point of being drafted - he will be drafted. But, position is dollars.

If he's picked between 1-10 his dollars would be approx. 4.9 mil-2.2 mil.
If he's picked between 11-15 his dollars would be approx 2.0 mil-1.6 mil.
If he's picked between 16-20 his dollars would be approx 1.6 mil-1.3 mil.
If he's picked between 21-25 his dollars would be approx 1.2 mil-1.0 mil
And if he's picked between 26-30, his dollars would be approx. 1.0 mil-980K.

Now based on this and basic math, there's a rational thinking to the madness. If he comes out and is picked around 22, he would make 1,215,480 a year. Last years #22 pick Courtney Lee was given a 4 year 6 million dollar contract. If Brackins were to come back, fine tune his game and come out as say the ninth pick that dollar value would be 2,282,640 and usually the higher draft picks are given three year contracts with options for years 4-6 with substantial raises in years 4-6. He will make more in three years then he would make in four years as a lower first rounder.

With that math, test the waters, if your not going to be a top 15 pick come back and move yourself up the draft!!!!

I think he stays one more year. He's strong, but he needs one more year to really gain the strength and consistency he needs to be a force at the next level. He's smart. I don't think he goes anywhere until after next season.

I guess I just don't get it. CB is pretty darn good, but that seems very high to me. He is way short on the physical aspect of pro ball, and he is playing on a team with no other scorers. That is a pretty lofty number for a guy that might be the 5th or 6th best player in his league.

Who all do you rate ahead of him?

In most of those scenarios, he make more in his first guaranteed contract than most of his classmates make in their career!

I don't know if this has really been discussed yet but Brackins really doesn't play like any other NBA player I can think of. One thing that will be a key for him sticking in the NBA will be his ability to hit the 3. If he can't do it then I really don't think he has an offensive game in the NBA.

I disagree--I think he has the perfect game to pay the NBA high pick and roll. He isn't that strong yet, but I think his game could look like Odom...which pains me to say as I dislike the Lakers.

He really needs to work on his mid range game if he wants to make it in the NBA. He really doesn't have a great mid range shot. He'll make it when he's hot, but that doesn't happen all the time. CRAIG! If you are reading this, Stay one more year and work on the little things in your game, and be a top 10, maybe top 5 next year

Wow, I think his midrange game, along with the fact he can use either hand in close are his STRENGTHS!

Do you watch the NBA draft? They draft on POTENTIAL! Always have and always will. Why do you think Hansborough might not get picked in the first round?!?!? That in itself tells you all that you need to know

Potential guys that have lived up to it:

High School Players
Kobe
Lebron
KG
Dwight Howard
Stoudamire
Bynum
O'neal
Chandler

Some of those players didn't even come out of the gates swinging. It took them time to develop and now they are very good NBA players. The last 3 of course.

Daquen Cook didn't even start at Ohio St and he is doing well in the NBA. Cory Maggette? Marvin Williams?

Too young to remember Moses, Kemp and Chocolate Thunder?

I think a lot of people here are forgetting that although the NBA does draft on potential, it's not the only thing they look for. A lot of the teams have specific holes they need to fill and not all of them (infact the majority of them do not need to draft a PF). IMHO, there are probably 4-5 PF's that you could argue going higher than CB in this draft and to think that those 4-5 PF's are going to go in the first 14 picks seems a little farfetched (even though it may happen) to me.

Who are the 4-5 you put ahead of him?
