Bottom line - MONEY!!!!!
IMO, if he's not a top 15 pick, he should go back to school for a year and come out in 2010 when the class will be weaker then this year especially at the 4 position. Problem this year, he's projected somewhere between 5th and 10th best power forward if he were to come out. Well, that type of range can have you moving up a board or falling and once begin falling, you can count the millions of reasons to either come back or stay however you look at it.
For those that said he's old for his class - consider that Tyler Hansbourgh is 23, brackins is 21 not that ancient.
The big thing is draft position - because at this point its a mute point of being drafted - he will be drafted. But, position is dollars.
If he's picked between 1-10 his dollars would be approx. 4.9 mil-2.2 mil.
If he's picked between 11-15 his dollars would be approx 2.0 mil-1.6 mil.
If he's picked between 16-20 his dollars would be approx 1.6 mil-1.3 mil.
If he's picked between 21-25 his dollars would be approx 1.2 mil-1.0 mil
And if he's picked between 26-30, his dollars would be approx. 1.0 mil-980K.
Now based on this and basic math, there's a rational thinking to the madness. If he comes out and is picked around 22, he would make 1,215,480 a year. Last years #22 pick Courtney Lee was given a 4 year 6 million dollar contract. If Brackins were to come back, fine tune his game and come out as say the ninth pick that dollar value would be 2,282,640 and usually the higher draft picks are given three year contracts with options for years 4-6 with substantial raises in years 4-6. He will make more in three years then he would make in four years as a lower first rounder.
With that math, test the waters, if your not going to be a top 15 pick come back and move yourself up the draft!!!!
