Brackins Projected @ #12

All you guys stating he should stay another year, are basing that solely off your own desire as a fan. No way should a guy who can be drafted in the top 12 of the NBA stay in college...too many bad things can happen. Many say things like stay in college and develop...doesn't a player have a better chance of developing while practicing with NBA players vs. other college players? And, getting paid millions while developing.
And, for those few who state that losing CB might be good for ISU and McD in the long-run are crazy...losing him for next year would probably spell the beginning of the end of the McD era...

Very good post.

Brackins is a great player. There is no denying that. But can't people see he really isn't ready for the NBA? By that I mean he would get owned if he were in the NBA next year. He has the potential and the physical tools, but he is still somewhat raw. I know the NBA loves those type of talents but I can't see Craig succeeding in his first few years as an NBA player.

I love how everyone is taking this projection as gospel. If Brackins were to be a lottery pick, I agree he should go. If I were an NBA team, I wouldn't be drafting him this year. This is not a knock on Craig but I just don't think his game is ready. He needs to get physically and mentally stronger. The mental side is getting better but we've all seen Craig get the pouty face. I'm rambling and this is a borderline Wesley post so I'm going to stop.

I have a friend in the athletic office he has been telling me he is leaving since november

Do you believe everything that is told to you? Maybe the guy has his own opinions and wants to feel important...(see what I did there. I put three periods at the end of my post)

So what NCAA players WOULD you say are ready for the NBA then? I think it would be a pretty small draft if you were in the front office...

NBA teams draft (especially after pick 5) based on potential. They know they might not be getting a superstar immediately but if they get a guy with a lot of upside like Brackins in the last half of the lottery then they're fine with waiting for him to develop. A lot of people on here don't understand Brackins can get better in the NBA and he would probably develop faster that way. He wouldn't have to play right away if he was drafted 12th and the team drafting him would give him every resource to improve. That being said, I don't want him to leave.

I just hope we can finish strong and maybe make a small little run in the conference tournament for Craig, he definitely deserves it for carrying us all year. He can go out on a high note.

Most everyone thinks that Brackins would benefit staying one more year as a player. However no one can give him a better opportunity to make it in the NBA than a 3 year guaranteed contract a lottery picks gets. You can't turn that down if he is getting that this year.

Solid post and spot on!

he is playing on a team with no other scorers.

Which puts a huge target on him as the only player on the team that needs guarded...yet he still manages to produce. That says a lot more than if he was surrounded by talented players and the defenders couldn't focus all their attention on him.

I don't know if this has really been discussed yet but Brackins really doesn't play like any other NBA player I can think of. One thing that will be a key for him sticking in the NBA will be his ability to hit the 3. If he can't do it then I really don't think he has an offensive game in the NBA.

To me the mid-range jumper is more important for him than the 3 ball...

Please someone post a link to any mock draft that shows him as a lottery pick????

IMO CB is an incredible talent - and the NBA drafts potential not proven production.

To prove that Tyler Hansbourgh at UNC, that guys done it night in and night out against the best competition in College Basketball and all the projections show him at the end of the first round. He's the all time UNC scoring leader - and this guy is a low first round pick.

I think CB's offensive game is NBA ready, yes he needs to improve his jumper, he needs to bulk up, he needs to work on footwork. But, he's defense is NOT nba ready and if CB were reading this - the guys in the lottery pick selections are picking sure things - because the money is too great to take huge leaps of faith. The rest of the draft is about potential.

This is the NBA people, how do you think Craig would do lined up against the following:
Carlos Boozer, Chris Bosh, Elton Brand, Tim Duncan, Pau Gasol, Ryan Gomes, Antwan Jamison, Kevin Love, Kenyon Martin, Antonio Mcdyess, Dirk Nowitzki, Lamar Odom, Zach Randolph, Josh Smith, Amare Stoudemire, Charlie Villanueva, Ben Wallace, Marvin Williams, Shelden Williams?

I mean the 4 spot in the NBA is one of the toughest positions to play in the league because you have tall big guys like Randolph, and then you have tall agile guys like Duncan, and then theres the Boris Diaws that will provide a completely different matchup problem.

I can understand the development stage, but, the only developing he's going to get is in practice, he will NOT be a starter next year for any NBA team. Another year, refining his game, developing just as he's done from Fresh to Soph and suddenly now his body is bigger, his game is more rounded and maybe he can battle with these guys.

This is nothing against CB - i love his game and his attitude and thats why i think he stays. I think he's got a plan on not only how to get to the big show, but once he's there how he can do something with his career. He's smart enough to see his game needs refinement (not major - minor refinements) for him to see significant playing time at the next level.

I hope he's back, but if he decides to go, i will support CB 100% in his decision and hope he gets drafted by someone that has a stud #4 so he can develop against a stud that will only help his game develop.

It's not too often you see a 4 shooting mid-range jumpers in the NBA. I'm not saying he doesn't have the ability to do it but I see him more as a pick and pop type player.

You might be right.

What are Craig's strengths?

He's a good athlete, a good rebounder, good in the low post, average shot to 18 feet, below average three point shooter, below average defender

He gets a lot of his points shooting over people. Do you think posting up 15 feet out and trying to shoot over people will work in the NBA? When he gets the ball on the block, he is unstoppable. Do you think he can consistently post on the block in the NBA? He already has enough trouble doing that now. His post moves are elementary (save the rare left handed hook he shows) and he doesn't have a great feel for the game.

There is NO WAY I would draft him early. I love Craig but I just don't see it.

The only guy I can think of is Chris Webber...sorta
