Bowl Game Projections

Happy for the Cyclones to be bowling. Talking to guys I know that went to the Liberty Bowl the last time the Cyclones were there, it sounds like Memphis was a great place to party and watch football.

Now, to my complaint. Once again in recent memory we go bowling and have to play a team at home or a stones throw from home (Boise St @ Humanitarian Bowl, Rutgers @ Pinstripe Bowl, Memphis @ Liberty Bowl). It would sure be nice to not have to play an away game as compared to a neutral site game.

Other cool things to do:

Grizzlies game
Gibson Guitar factory with tours of the manufacturing floor
Civil Rights Museum

All near Beale Street.

Sun Studios was our favorite, by far.

This is a sign we need to start the Corn bowl which will be a home game for us. We can give them the old Cyhawk trophy with the family on it.
I'd be ok with a bowl game in Ames (although it will never happen), but I'd never want ISU to play in it. Bowl games are about the travel. For that reason, I can't imagine Memphis is to excited. They went from nearly playing in the NY6 to a game they don't get to travel to. Kind of sucks for the Memphis seniors...

Should have picked better words, obviously, but regardless I can't believe people are so pissed about going to any bowl game, let alone one that is an easy drive on a Saturday. No it doesn't have much national relevance, but nothing outside about the top 8 bowls do.

If you want to help the cause for next year, make sure you go this year to keep the reputation of great fan support alive. The worst thing you can do is stay home and hurt the reputation for the next several years.
I'm surprised there are people surprised about this. We're playing a top 25 team in their home stadium and the last time we played there we got slaughtered by a G5 team. For those who aren't traveling to it there's not a lot to be excited about other than actually playing in a bowl, which is nice to be doing again.

I like the match up....we are a good road team, and play well with a chip on our shoulder. This staff will have them ready.

I think the people complaining want to hold Iowa State to a higher standard just like Campbell

Higher standard of what? We couldn't pick our bowl game. It isn't Iowa State's fault TCU got screwed.

We got slaughtered by a team that we were playing 3 times in 2 years. It was a different coaching staff.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks that this will be a repeat of last time.

I was thinking the same thing. And can you imagine if Cyclone fans fill the stands? Memphis will come running out on their home field to chants of "Cyclone/Power".

Eh, not really. You had one person on here saying he'd rather play BC (who is worse than memphis), and it's also completely possible that the teams we'd play in either the cactus bowl or dallas bowl will also be worse than Memphis. I get being disappointed in going to Memphis, but it really isn't about holding Iowa State to a higher standard. It seems to be more about wanting a better vacation (which I understand).

The team deserved better than this. This is why if ISU ever has a chance to f over the Big 12 we should do it without thinking twice about it.

So much is different. Better coaches, better QB play, better receivers, better defense, budding star at running back. Great opportunity in a mid-tier bowl.

I know you're serious but that's not a good thing right now unless they are playing someone good..
