I understand all of that. I do. The difference is GMAC is a classy guy and a straight up nice guy pretty much all of the time. The one major difference is that "nice" guys finish last as GMAC is proving this year.
I personally will take a straight up A-hole if the guy can win.
Oh.... you shouldn't have gone after JSB like that. She is going to hold that over your head forever just like the fact that she has gone to every ISU game this year when the team stunk. Make no mistake.... she is a far better fan then you even if she is just a poser and really is a UNI fan.

Pretty sure that if Gillispie did get hired instead of being ****** that we hired an "alcoholic *******" most of the fanbase would be saying "it's great he's really turned his life around at ISU". Just saying.
Especially if he won! If he loses...then people would say "why did we hire this loser"! Always works that way...

Trust me when I say that there will be quite a few people that will remember exactly what you said...... and not in a way that you think is very flattering. People don't enjoy having their passion for Cyclone athletics called out and especially not by someone who thinks their #2 doesn't stink. Just an FYI for you.
I'm pretty sure Gillespie went through alcohol treatment. I know the idea of an alcoholic coach brings back some memories, but what more have you heard about LE's alcoholism after he got treatment? Exactly.
I didn't say you were a UNI fan, and I wasn't trying to insult you, so please don't think that either.
The point is, this "rumor" and all of the coaches being thrown out is the most hopeful this board has been since January. Then, all of the people that are fans of Greg's come on here and talk Iowa State down. I don't mind the debate, but there has to be better reasons to keep Greg at this point than nobody else will take the job, or that it's career suicide, or Iowa State has never been good, so be grateful somebody took the job.
That's what doesn't play well. You believe what you wrote, that there are no concrete reasons, and that's fine, at least you expressed that. This is the best team that he has had at Iowa State, no question. But they are 3-11 with a real chance to end up with his worst conference record. That can't be acceptable, not four years into it. Add in all of the players that he has either lost or run off, and it's even more damaged.
I actually am a UNI fan, Cyclone first though, and was at the dome the day he and Mark Farley got out of the limos to be introduced as head coaches of their sports. I really like Greg, I wasn't happy with the way he left his "dream job" but he made up his mind that he had to leave.

Can't agree 100% with this, at least if you're talking about it from a fan perspective. Larry was a hard *** to play for and I don't think he was a model employee so if that's what you're referring to then you're probably right.
That said, he was great with the public. He appreciated Cyclone fans and I've never heard of a fan having a bad experience with him. I think that's why you see the fierce loyalty that some, including me, still have for him. There's no debating that he screwed up big time, but the AD handled it VERY poorly. Suspend him, stand behind him, get him better, and have him coaching Wayne's recruits and lord knows where we could be today.
I can't see why this would be a bad thing.
1) Big name-- He has coached at one of, if not the, most storied basketball programs in the United States. Granted, his tenure there wasn't great, but the fact that he did coach there indicates that he, at one point, was considered one of the best coaches in America, and his name will instantly be recognizable by recruits and signees.
2) He will bring us back to being a relative basketball program faster than most other coaches. He has two advantages over most of the other coaches being mentioned (aside from Mike Davis): he knows how to coach a BCS conference team, and he also knows how to bring up from the cellar of the Big 12.
3) I think he will be desperate to re-establish his reputation, and as such, he will worker and at coaching and recruiting than ever before.

4) I think because of his experiences at Kentucky he will be more likely than a young up-and-comer to stick around at Iowa State if he's succesful. He's already held one of the big jobs in college basketball and got burned badly by it.
