Biggest Pet Peeves

People who put periods and other punctuation outside of quotation marks.

People in front of me in a long concession lines that don't know what the **** they want when it is their turn to order. Dude, you had ten minutes to think about it. It isn't like you couldn't see the menu eight people back. Order already.....

*CLARIFYING* not because it's wrong sometimes... But it just really grinds my gears

haha, was just going to say hey wait a second....I'm actually glad I looked because I think recently I've been putting stuff outside the quotation marks and that is wrong. :(

After disasters when people feel the need to personalize the disaster to something they went through as if we are all supposed to feel sorry for them. Had a friend who had visited Boston probably 5 years ago that after that bombing you would have thought he was in the hospital. "I once ate at a restaurant just 3 blocks from the bombing"
This week it came to light again with the OKC tornado. "I saw an EF3 go through our field once so this hits close to home" "My cousin lives in new york so I've seen the destruction a massive storm can do" "Our youth group went to New Orleans so these images are haunting"
Not sure if anyone else feels that way. It almost seems like they are trying to make it a contest to show that the disaster affected them more than others. I assume there is some psychological term for it.

it can be annoying if it's in a "look at me, this affected me!" way but I think it's natural for all of us to find a connection to events like that - good or bad.

People who assume people who smoke weed are burnouts a la the breakfast club.
People who don't shift properly when driving stick.
People who put their hand on your shoulder for an entire conversation.

People who talk on their cellphones at 6:30am on the train.
People who purposely sit by you on the train when there are multiple double seats open.
Bums who eat, sleep and pizz on the train and are never made to get off.
Bikers who ride side by side.
People who stand 6 inches from you when there is no one else on the entire train platform.
People who don't understand the concept of the left lane.
People who text and drive.

To name a few....

Sounds like you've got a case of siderodromophobia.

I have lots of pet peeves, but since cycling was brought up, and I'm a cyclist, I'll name a few.

-Drivers that don't understand that cyclists have a legal right to the entire lane and that riding two-wide is legal (though not cool or polite)
-Drivers that don't leave enough room when passing cyclists
-Drivers that pass cyclists at the same time as oncoming traffic is going by
-Cyclists that ride on the sidewalk (this gives motorists the wrong impression that that's where cyclists belong)
-People who don't stay to the right side of the trail on greenway trails (cyclists, joggers, dog walkers)
-People who use headphones while walking on the center of a trail and can't hear you when you yell "on your left".
-Cyclists that don't follow traffic laws (blowing through stop signs, not signaling turns, passing on the right) - you make law-obeying cyclists like me look bad.

In MN, I only have to leave 3ft when overtaking/passing a bicyclist. (though I don't think that's cool or polite)

I actually missed that question on the Driver's test. I was shocked 3ft was the answer.

I'm indifferent on the cyclist vs. vehicle driver conversation as I do a lot of both. However, just to get you guys a little more fired up at one another, I figure I'll just throw out the fact that people driving in vehicles are the ones who actually pay for the roads (gas tax/vehicle registration), not the cyclists. There it is. Have fun :-).

I own cars, buy fuel, and pay taxes. Eat it!

This is probably why 99% of drivers hate cyclists.
