Biggest Pet Peeves

99% is an exaggeration since pretty much all cyclists are also drivers (why would they hate their own?). Also, cyclists are different than cars, so when you see a cyclist being a DB, it stands out in your memory. I see people in cars be DBs all of the time, but I don't blindly assume all drivers break the law (unless I'm in Minnesota).

Also, everyone can ride a bike without special training or a license. Not so for cars. If everyone could drive without a license you would probably hate drivers a lot more.
 
Oh I knew I'd think of more.

"Management speak." I hate when people who think they are important use management buzz words. The current one going around my office right now is "iterate."

Some of my past (not) favorites:

-get my arms around it. Dude, just say you're trying to understand it.
-send me the deck. Dude, it's a powerpoint.
-have you tried that executable? It's a program, man.
-what do you think of these metrics? They're numbers. Or at most, statistics.

We currently have a director whose favorite word is "robust." You've put together a very robust plan here.

Do you think that makes you sound smart? Seriously? Too bad we're not allowed to drink alcohol at work because it would make a great drinking game to do a shot every time she says "robust."
 
People who have no connection to a sports team, but cheer for them and wear their gear anyway, i.e. all hok fans, pretty much all Yankee fans, people wearing Oregon gear in Iowa...

Definitely an exaggeration, but when you live in a big city it's probably pretty close to accurate. Every biker in Chicago blatantly breaks the law. That is not an exaggeration, and when most drivers suck as well, it's just one more f'n headache to deal with.

There's a kid who started wearing a penn state sweatshirt weeks after it happened, in one of my gen-ed classes.

Hey I wear Oregon gear in Iowa and have no association with them other than LOVING their style of play in football.

Ya, I think if I lived in Chicago I'd hate everybody, cyclists included. Chicago also has a bunch of hipsters on fixies who haven't ridden a bike since they were 10, and don't know proper etiquette. That reminds me...

Hipsters (especially hipsters on fixies)

Hahahaha! If you see my earlier list, that's pretty much where I'm at. This city will turn you. I feel like punching at least 10 people on daily basis.

How do you define a "connection" with a sports team?
 
1) Basically everything BlackHawk has said about Chicago/Cyclists. I'd also add the guys on the street that constantly try to buff my shoes. One of these days they'll catch me in a bad mood and receive a boot to the face.

2) When I fill my sponge dish cleaner with dish soap only to find it all leaked out when I come back a little later.

One or more of the following:

PRO TEAMS
-grew up in the same state, or in an adjacent state to where that team is located
-parents have always cheered for that team
-a family member played or worked for that team
-have been to sporting events at that team's stadium/arena/field multiple times

COLLEGE TEAMS
-went to college there
-a family member went to college or works there
-that university immediately supports the industry in which you work (like ISU and farmers)
-grew up less than an hour away from that university

I hate the phrase "tells the story." It gets used all the time at every customer pitch I attend. "We've got a great story to tell." I am so tired of that phrase.
