So, this may be unpopular to those of you who only care about this guy scoring points and playing basketball but oh well. I can't get behind this guy at this point. Can he play ball, yes. But my impression of him has been as a selfish person. Watching him play is sometimes irritating as he seems more me first than anyone else. Hearing that he has had the cops called on him multiple times for playing loud music and annoying his neighbors is just more of the same.

Yes, Fred had a talk with him apparently and his game got more team friendly. But apparently Fred was also called in to meet with BDJ and the cops. To me, that is ridiculous, childish, and disrespectful.

I hope this is the thing that makes him realize he's got a heck of an opportunity not just at ISU playing basketball, but in life.

To be clear, I don't think these charges are a big deal. It's the overall picture he's creating. The fact that he's apparently an ongoing nuisance to his neighbors, the cops, and the fact that his coach has to babysit him. That annoys me.

I wonder how many times the cops have been called on Niang for annoying his neighbors or how many times they were called on Fred in his days as a student. In fact, compare him to any of our "troubled transfers". There is more to it than scoring points on the floor to get the respect of the fan base. Being a gifted athlete only goes so far.

You are talking out of both sides of your mouth. On one side you are talking about how he doesn't respect the game and the other you are saying the charges aren't a big deal.

Bottom line is that Fred Hoiberg has determined that it is a big enough deal for a 1 game suspension. Nothing more, nothing less.

My opinion on the matter is pretty unimportant and so is yours.

My recommendation is drop the holier than thou attitude, and just enjoy the season. BDJ is gone in 4 months after the season is over.

What is "so predictable". The guy had the cops called on him 6 times for being a nuisance. Is that ok?

I don't think the charges are a big deal. His general disrespect for everyone around him is. That's what I'm saying.

oldman, have you even looked at his assist stats?

Comparing him to Niang isn't fair. It's not like good HS recruits have been beating down the door to come to ISU and stay here for 4 years.

Getting 10-12 perfect humans, from NYC, LA, Michigan or wherever, who also happen to be great basketball players to come to Ames is NEVER going to happen.

Look around your office. I'm sure there are some jerks in your office as well.

How's the view from your soap box?

I'd wager 50% of the people here would have been in some kind of trouble like this while they were in college had they been high profile athletes.

I'm usually pretty harsh on athletes when they get in trouble, but this just feels like someone being targeted.

Ok, apparently I need to clarify again. It's not a soap box position about him getting in trouble for this. But getting the cops called on you 6 times. Having a sit down with your coach and the cops because you are repeatedly having run in with the cops. THAT IS A PROBLEM.

If it was so bad, then the cops would have charged him before last night. As I've said previously, I kind of get the feeling that the White kid was overreacting and the cops knew that it wasn't something that they would have charged anyone else with. That's why the stupid 'text him when he is too loud' part was implemented. That's why there was a compromise over noise on the weekend---if it was too noisy for legal reasons the weekends shouldn't matter.

BDJ and the roommates should have stopped that **** long before, but I get the feeling that the complainer was a bit dramatic and all involved knew it.

Did you hear what Naz had to say? They guys like him. Matt Thomas HAD A DUI! You aren't talking about him being selfish. You have a problem with him because he is a transfer from UNLV who is at his 3rd school in 5 years.

And you talk about him being unselfish on the floor? All the team has said about him is how is one of the first to congratulate, give a high five, and bring the team together. He is also currently 11th in the league in Assists.

I assume you and others like you are sitting back smiling to yourselves saying, "Yup! Knew this was gonna happen! I called from day one!"

You will be singing a different tune when he has a stat line of 23/6/5 and helps sends ISU to the Sweet Sixteen.

Agree.

And this isn't a Freshman who is experiencing college for the first time.

A college coach shouldn't have to babysit.

Yes....thankfully not a major offense, but doesn't seem respectful at all.

I do disagree on the fact that he isn't a team player. He seems to be pretty team oriented. Bad decision by bdj but as long as hes on our team i support him
