Does this mega conference alliance talk mean the Big12 could be partnering with the SEC? I wouldn’t mind seeing the cyclones be part of the big10 with Kansas, in a pod with iowa and nebraska. But this shakes everything up. Where would the cyclones land?

Good thread here. I was pretty on edge earlier when I saw the Athletic story, but I think this makes a lot of sense. Not that it meaningfully changes our situation, but for now the object is to keep people from making rash decisions that lock us out of power conferences for a decade or more.

To me, this says that those conferences want to protect the existing order as much as possible against a piece by piece destruction by the SEC. Following that logic, they may coordinate to balance the conferences, rather than bid against each other. I think this move is good for keeping college football closer to what it was, and I think we'll be part of that new structure in some way.

AD that was involved said directly that they were against SEC and B12. We are screwed and say hello to Memphis and Cincy in the G5 When do we fire Bowlsby and go Indy? What a joke of a commissioner!

Plotting against the Big 12 at this point would be like plotting to stop Adam Woodbury from winning Mr. Universe. Mad Fran from winning Miss Congeniality. KU football from becoming a college football superpower.

All that **** is going to take care of itself.

This. In many ways, why the hell WOULD they involve the Big 12?

While I’m not optimistic about our future after this news, The Athletic article reads that these 3 conferences are agreeing not to poach any Big 12 schools RIGHT NOW, which makes sense when trying to form an anti-SEC alliances Why would the PAC 12 take a Big 12 team and add to the divide that got us here in the first place?

This alliance can form and then decide how they want to go forth adding schools

Yep. The Big 12 is basically serving as an organization looking to find its members landing spots. That's basically the extent of their power. Other conferences will decide the landscape, and it makes sense to incorporate former Big 12 teams into it.

It looks like the Cyclones' attendance compared very favorably with the other power conference teams' attendances as a whole. (OU's (83,256) and Texas' (96,314) attendance numbers were significantly better, but even with them leaving our conference, ISU still compares well).

Here are the Big 8's attendance numbers:
Baylor- 45,517
Iowa State- 59,794
Kansas- 33,873
Kansas State- 48,818
Oklahoma State- 55,434
TCU- 42,896
Texas Tech- 53,428
West Virginia- 55,907

The conference did better than the Pac 12 and about the same as the ACC. Compared to the Big 10, our conference had lower attendance, but most of our conference is in the range of their lower half. And while the SEC has even better attendance than the Big 10, the Big 8's average of about 49,400 is about the same as the bottom 6 of the SEC (48,000).

All in all, the Big 8's fan bases are in the mix amongst the power conferences.
