PSU has way too much in their arsenal.

They haven't really had a bad tournament under Cael. I think part of that is their culture and the fact that they dont have guys pulling huge weight. Plus they score so freaking many bonus points.

I think Oky State is the only team with a shot at them this year. They will need to have a great tournament with their weight shuffle paying off, along with Penn State having that off tournament they haven't had. Not likely. Possible, but not likely.

I am little worried for Oky state didnt they say we were the best team they faced? I dont know anything about wrestling but damn this is exciting. I have literally seen more wrestling this year than ever before but I am loving it.

Few thoughts: Super proud of the guys. If dresser didn't win COY that would of been a sham job. Bowlsby interview was awful and he clearly doesn't know how to promote wrestling and his hard on for Iowa wrestling was misplaced and weird. Chase deserved that. Dressers quote of kids paying the price in the room is simple but speaks volumes. Doug Schwab is annoying. Willie is strong but my god Weigel looks like a Greek god. Watching Degen matches are as nerve racking and they are entertaining.

Overall great effort, not much longer and okie st will start to feel some serious heat under their little perch on top of the conference.

Need to figure out Ok State weight program. White, Weigel and Jacobe Smith are beast!
I heard a quite a few years ago that a wrestler or coach reached out the the football program to help a wrestler get stronger, but maintain the flexibility needed on the mat.

What do okie st facilities for wrestling look like compared to ours? I'm assuming considerably better but I have no clue.

The only drawback for this weekend is we didn't do ourselves any favors for NCAA seeds. Gomez, Degen, Colbray, and Miklus all got wins over top 20 guys but lost to the AA caliber guys they faced, as did Parker. We'll need to turn those results around in two weeks if we're going to have anybody end up on the podium. Luckily they were almost all close matches so it isn't improbable for them to go the other way, but the path is going to be harder with those losses dropping the guys down in the bracket.

Short of a miracle, they're not winming it this year. I suppose they could be in the mix next year but I think 2 years from now when Lee and Marinelli are seniors would be their best bet. Maybe that would be the reason for that timeline...gift the new guy a loaded lineup to get momentum.

My son and I were both yelling to just lock out and stale mate it. Then he moved a bit and we both said Chase was screwed, then Thomas made a boneheaded move and gave it to straw. For a few seconds it looked like both were determined they didn't want to win, then Straw pounced on the opportunity and pulled it out.

Hell, if Stoll doesn't get an at large then they're probably going to need a meltdown from Ohio State or Oklahoma State just to finish in the top 3.

Iowa has went all in with the next couple of years. I don't know how they have any money left to recruit. If Kem gets another season, I wonder if that sucks money out from offers to others. I do not know what their recruiting looks like for the next couple classes, but they have to be against the wall.

Possible coaches have been a little stale for awhile. The next wave of coaches is probably just finishing competing now. Metcalf, Varner, Borroughs and such and probably the ones that will emerge to replace Smith and Dresser age coaches. The key will be pinpointing who the cream of them will be and then holding them. We now are near the facilities and support to compete. One thing that would probably be positive is an olympic sports venue. Wrestling, VB and gymnastics in a 7-8k arena dedicated to those sports would be probably the one thing we are missing.

Wonder if Morningstar would stick around on Perry's staff if that did happen. Morningstar is a reason Iowa is getting the recruits of that they are.

They'd be stupid to let him go. The guys he's going in and taking out from under Ryan and Sanderson's noses is nothing short of amazing.

They are pretty comparable, actually. The actual wrestling room is similar size, locker rooms are similar size. Nice thing about Okie States wrestling room/locker room is its connected to Iba-Gallagher where they compete and it overlooks the football stadium.

Wrestling rooms and locker rooms can't get much better. A mat is pretty much a mat, unless you have some of these dirty concrete like ones that some HSs have. The amenities and newness is what makes them seem better usually. The new additions by the football field will be very nice and helpful. Would think a new facility/arena in the A lots would be a tremendous thing to have. Move intramurals and add parking there and buy a little other ground to help handle parking issues.

I've said the same thing for years regarding the Olympic sports arena. If I ever hit the Powerball I'm the lead donor on that thing in a hurry.
