Big-12 / Pac-12 possible merger

The goal of the talks IMO is to combine the FB inventory of both conferences with the goal of engaging networks in bidding beyond ESPN and Fox. Benefits both conferences or ultimately a merged conference.
Thanks - Understand.
But is the new pile of $, divided by 20, greater than the existing p12 pie divided by 12? If the 12 lose $, I doubt they want a deal with the 8.
I just do not know. But, I suppose we can hope Fox wants to be a player of some magnitude.

I pretty much agree. Great that they talked. I really doubt a merger is in the cards. I could see a possible schedule agreement, but even that would seem fairly limited, as the PAC schedules are pretty full already. Not clear to me how a schedule agreement greatly improves our financial situation. But, we need to throw out a lot of nets.
With a few schedule tweaks, it would allow for more, and better, programming. The PAC can get a choice of games earlier in the day and the Big 8 can get the same later in the day. I imagine that the anticipated viewing numbers for our game at UNLV are pretty high right now. I'm planning on watching it and I have trouble staying up past 10.

Give Amazon naming rights in exchange for a fat contract

Untold benefit to merging with the Pac-12 gets you the alumni connections to these GIANT technology companies! Amazon has had 3 straight 100 billion dollar quarters. Disney's best yearly revenue was 3/4 of that pre-COVID.

Amazon is spending over $400M on season 1 (8 episodes, over $50M an episode) of the new Lord of the Rings franchise.. They are spending $1B a year on broadcasting 1 NFL game a week on Prime. The money Apple, YouTube and and Amazon throw around makes Disney look like a section 8 resident

Remind them of this guy - they owe us

It’s been fairly well documented that the remaining 8 teams do not move the needle much with regard to viewership. Thus, I question what benefit it brings the P12 to enter into an agreement of any kind with those 8 teams. Is Oregon/Washington/USC, etc just itching for a trip to Lubbock/Manhattan (KS)/, etc? What’s motivating that?

I think the argument would be that it brings more legitimacy to football in the Pac-12. There's been too many years recently when only one potential team like USC or Oregon was a playoff contender and they haven't really been battle tested. With the SEC going to 16, ACC and Big 10 already at 14 and maybe getting bigger, it's easy for the national media to write off a 12 team conference. But if you bring teams like OSU, TCU, Iowa St, KSU, and Texas Tech, whoever wins the new conference would be viewed more favorably. Which would hopefully bring back more viewers to the Pac-12 by increased interest again from fans of USC, Oregon, and Washington, more interest in west coast football from the passionate fan bases of the Big 12's 8 teams, and more national storylines.

More inventory in earlier time slots, some of which could be on the Pac12 Network. It should bring them more exposure via the earlier games, as well as throwing some content at their struggling network.

On exposure: you can watch the B1G and SEC from 11am til about 10pm every saturday - they have games spread out like that in roughly 4 time windows. That's exposure all day long. With the Pac12 now, that's really a struggle. First, an early game at 9am is tough - your big fish aren't going to want to do that. Second, their late games compete with primetime (often marquee) games from the B1G and SEC. Having easier access to more early games in CST doesn't overcome the B1G and SEC, but at least you're competing. Right now, they are basically relegated to where no one is watching.

If I read this correctly, this idiot thinks we are the least desirable P12 candidate

YOU LEAVE BRIAN FERENTZ OUT OF THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with selling the naming rights to the conference. "Monster Energy Conference" next year will be "Google Conference" then maybe "Budweiser Conference" similar to what NASCAR did.

If not, just go with the BigPac

I also look forward to the ISU vs iowa Rose Bowl game.
Ha! Good one! Hoks in the Rose bowl. We all need a good laugh these days.
