Best Unknown Guitarists

True Story. Actually, Hendrix was asked, "what does it it feel like to be the best guitarist in the world?" To which Hendrix replied, "I don't know, ask Phil Keaggy."

Keaggy never became a household name, probably because he is a Christian musician.

Keaggy was amazing.

Here's some other great guitarists talking about who they think is the best. Big one that comes up is Allan Holdsworth

His music is interesting but he's a master still. He has the most messed up chord voicings ever

His story is funny though. I think he wanted a piano/keyboard for christmas when he was 9 or something, but got a guitar instead. So he spent years trying to make his guitar sound like a piano/keyboard.

James Biehn is from Des Moines and he gets my vote for best unknown guitarist. I think he plays in a band call Soapbox Prophets now, use to play with the McKenzies a few years back.

I've seen him play at Locust Tap and The Underground a few times. Hell of a good artist, and he has great taste in music too. When he plays cover sets, they're always great.

A guy who I forgot about until recently is Eric Johnson. His big album "Ah Via Musicom" is pretty trippy. He got some recent attention because one his songs "Cliffs of Dover" is on the Guitar Hero 3 soundtrack.

He's pretty good.

If we are talking Bassists then I will have to throw Victor Wooten into the mix. Jaco was great but died so young that there isn't enough out there of him. I still think Victor is better. (Sorry, no YouTube ate work).

Sonny Landreth can wail. He plays an electric-slide blues style. He has been a studio player for a lot of artists as well as a solo act with his own band. His solo live album ROCKs!
