Best ISU Basketball Player Ever?

Love Fizer, but did everyone forget his final game. I don't remember him being so dominant. I'd rather give it to Tinsley, just because of how we performed the next year without Fizer. I think Fizer was so dominant because of Tinsley. It's easier to play the post when your point guard drives three feet in to the lane on every possesion.

1. Hornacek
2. Tinsley
3. Freddy
4. Grayer
5. Fizer

I agree that Fizer was the single most physically dominant. I was fortunate to watch Barry Stevens, Jeff Hornacek, Jeff Grayer, Fred Hoiberg and Jamaal Tinsley. I'm not old enough to have seen the greats from earlier such as Gary Thompson play, so will exclude them from my list. I have an affinity for the 4-year players, but would still vote for Fizer. I also loved the way Grayer played. Tinsley was awesome, but he is still likely third.

Ther have been many, but my defining moment was watching Tinsley foul out Heinrich at Hilton. It was the most amazing thing I have seen on the court. There was about 7 mins left in the game and Kirk got his third foul. Tinsley MADE Heinrich foul him on that trip for his fourth, then the very next trip down made him foul out of the game. I have never seen anyone do anything like that to a guard. If Fizer would have stayed for his senior season, we would have a national championship at ISU.

Very hard to pick........Tinsley was the best overall talent. Fizer was the most physically dominating. Hornacek was clutch. Grayer had that silky smooth jumper crossing the lane. I would have to say Hoiberg......all around, great passer, clutch rebounder, could single handedly take over a game. Plus a class guy and a leader.

Ron Falenschek!!!!!:yes4lo:

Come on you 40 somethings, help me out!!:biggrin9gp:

Remember his coast to coast slam dunk at Hilton? I don't remember the opponent, but I remember him lumbering down the court with the ball on a break-away, and after taking at least three steps (no traveling call though) he barely gets the ball over the rim for a dunk. The crowd went nuts.

Good times.

Stevens (Orr's first big recruit)
Grayer
Hornacek
Hoiberg
Uthoff (need a rebounder in here somewhere)
Rhodes (just to p.o. the Hawkeye readers!)

OK, I'll check in on this and echo what many are saying.

#1 Jeff Grayer without a DOUBT
#2 Fizer
#3 Tinsely
#4 Hornacek (did everything well, Mr. Clutch).

Someone else mentioned Barry Stevens and that is LEGIT. Barry was one of the best ever in Clones uniform and had one of the sweetest jumpers I have every seen. In top 10 for sure.

Over rated: The Mayor. He shouldn't even be in the top 10 (in my opinon).

Clearly, the answer to this question is Andrew Skoglund, he of the missed point-blank dunk.

And just where is the love for Adam Haluska? :oo7dt:

Barry Stevens was really something.

Don Smith was the BOMB.

And I always wanted Dedric to shoot.

Jamaal Tinsley. No single player had a greater impact on winning than JT.

I've got to go along with JT. Never lost a game at home, only lost one conference game (period) in regulation (at Texas) and NEVER lost to Kansas.

Say what you want about Fizer, but Tinsley was the glue. And I never saw anyone before or since dribble between his opponent's legs, and he did it twice
