Best BBQ Sauce

Cattlemen's Gold is my #1 all-time sauce, no question.

As a very frequent customer of WAS in my last 2-3 years of college, we'd order drummies from Pizza Pit during "South Park Wednesday" with X3 cups of their "Zesty Dijon" sauce every time.

The actual brand & flavor is Cattlemen's Gold. I was so obsessed with it that I'd lick all remaining sauce clean from the cups to ensure that none was wasted.

I made several long trips back to Ames/WAS for a few years post-college, and even special ordered it a few times from a distributor when it wasn't widely available in stores, online, etc.

As it is readily available now, I always have some in the fridge. My kids just tried it for the first time a couple weeks back, and they loved it too! And they're at the age where they mostly only like/eat ketchup.. :)

Never had it. Definitely going to look for it and try it.

I've also never had Alabama white sauce, which I know isn't really a BBQ sauce, but I've seen it used mostly for smoked chicken thighs which I'll do pretty regularly. Would love to know anyone's input on that who's had it.

So what’s your best bean recipe?
I usually go with a tangy sauce bacon onions A1 mustard and brown sugar. Worcestershire if I’m out of A1. And light on the mustard it can overwhelm

We knew a restaurant owner. He made his BBQ sauce with a gallon of Cattleman's Base BBQ, a gallon of the Carolina Tangy Gold and 4 to 6 bottles of La Choy Sweet and Sour sauce, depending how sweet you want. Now you end up with about 9 quarts of sauce, but we freeze most of it and then thaw it as we need it. It is really good.

I feel like Hickory Park made their sauce from a base of Cattlemans.

No, I'm not saying HP is good, I just feel like I've seen them pour those big containers before.

I've seen it at the Grimes Hy-Vee recently I think. Will have to look next time I am there. Pretty sure Fareway has it. It's made by some Iowa State guys too. If you like a little more kick without it being too spicy the medium heat is pretty good.
The medium was my go-to. Whenever I drove back to Iowa I grabbed a bunch. Ran out a while ago and now I can’t find it nor can I find a suitable replacement.

Looks like their website isn’t active anymore. Did they close shop? Makes me sad if so. It was/is a great product.

Looks like I’m in the minority but I don’t like sweet. Prefer tangy
Great barbecue is made in the smoker, but I like every Famous Dave's sauce. All barbecue sauce has a lot of sugar in it, but I don't think it should taste sweet.
