Basketball: Big Ten vs. Big 12

Anybody seen Big Ten game we used to love?

It pretty much slams Big Ten basketball, even though it is the second conference in RPI standings. What do you think?
How would you compare Big 12 to Big 11?
I say Big 12 > Big 11... but not by much.

The way the article ends is also pretty funny...

"If you had watched Todd Lickliter's Iowa Hawkeyes as often this winter as you have Illinois, the world's finest ophthalmologists wouldn't be able to repair the eye damage."

But they did beat us this year:sad:

Lick will get things turned around at Iowa, but it is going to be a lot longer than Hawk fans are willing to wait.

You never know, if they can win these last 3, which is very possible, and then win a game in the BTT, they'd finish at 18-15. Maybe the NIT takes a look at them, who knows?

Your point is right on - Todd has had his entire lineup available for exactly ONE conference game this year. Hell, in the last 2 games they've only played 7 guys, and 4 of those guys have played the whole game.

No way...you could argue they found a better point gaurd because of the health reasons.

Iowa will be hovering around the NIT bubble for couple more years...I've seen their recruits coming in...it's going to take time.

Kelly Gatens Tucker Davis are going to be great.

They have really no post help.

Big Ten is better than the Big 12, and it's not even really close this year.

Last year, the Big 12 was better.

Let's line the teams up:

MSU beats KU (proven on the court)
Illinois vs. Oklahoma(if Griffin is healthy)
Purdue vs. Missouri
Ohio Statevs. Texas
Penn State vs. Kansas State (remember, Iowa beat them)
Wisconsin vs. Okie state - push
Minnesota vs. Texas AM
Michigan vs. Nebraska
Northwestern vs. Baylor - push
Iowa vs. ISU (proven on the court)
Indiana vs. Texas Tech

That's 6-3-2 in favor of the Big Ten, and I could even see Wisconsin beating OSU and Ohio State beating Texas.

If you honestly think that the Big 12 is better than the Big Ten, then you either haven't been watching basketball, or you are a homer.
 
SH, just guess a few more. A Purdue team we beat on a nuetral court last year (albeit a year older) is just a given to beat a top 10 team with one of the nations widest margin of victory average? Most of the others are toss ups and I see no reason why you would so blatantly pick the little eleven team. As a non-homer (way to name call prior to allowing anyone to respond), Baylor is playing the worst ball in the Big 12 right now and it's one you list as a push? Have you been watching any basketball lately?
 
I'd take the Big 10 over the Big 12, as well. Neither conference is particularly good. Both conferences lack a dominant team, but I think the Big 10 is deeper with mediocre teams. Outside of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri, the Big 12 is pretty weak. Even the three teams I mentioned aren't great.

Also, Missouri would beat Purdue by 10 on a neutral floor.
 
I love both conferences, While being a die hard clone!! i did grow up an ILLINI fan so I do like both Cons the way they play. I think B12 schools might have a hard time matching up with a d team like ILL or MSU! But I think it would be a great battle if they had a tourney

Here's why I picked Purdue over Missouri - because the one Big Ten team they played, Illlinois, they lost by 16. Since Illinois and Purdue are tied in the conference, I gave that game to the Boilers.

Why I would so "blatantly" pick a Big Ten team?

The #10 Big Ten team beat the #5 and #10 Big 12 teams
The #1 Big Ten team beat the #1 and #4 Big 12 team (Texas on the road, btw)
The #2 Big Ten team beat the #2 Big 12 team

Sorry, it's not really being a homer when the games have been proven on the court. The Big Ten is 5-2 vs. the Big 12 this year. Remember in football, when the "on the field" was the victory march by ISU fans on who was the better football conference?

Same applies to basketball. The Big Ten has dominated the Big 12 in head-to-head matchups this year. So yes, the Big Ten is better. The games on the court prove this.

So please, explain to me why the Big 12 could be considered better than the Big Ten, or how I'm being a homer by picking Big Ten teams? If you can prove this to me, then I'll be sure to use that logic next time an ISU fan tries to explain why the Big 12 was better than the Big Ten in football.
 
With the youth of the Big 12 I was not surprised to see them lose so many nonconf games.

The Big 10 does have some really nice teams this year and is the best it probably has been in a long time. It is not a shock that the Big 10 is better this year.

I guess I just think that Purdue is the most over rated team in that league (after Hummels injury)

Just as Texas is very over rated in the Big 12.

I agree with this, actually.

Purdue has had good games - like the game against MSU and their OT loss at Oklahoma. However, they've also had their bad games (against Illinois, twice, and the majority of the NU game on the road).

The Big Ten is improving (finally), and is still VERY young. Most of the solid teams are chalked full of Sophomores. IMO, the Big Ten has one of the best collection of coaches as an entire conference in the country.
 
Its too bad ISU and Iowa have both had pathetic seasons this year. The topic would be a lot more fun to talk about.

You mean you're getting tired of the pissing matches about who has the better conference, rather than who's team will make it farther in the post season?

Psh, this is waaaaaay more fun ;)
 
I think both conferences are down, but looking around the NCAA, the SEC seems way down, the PAC 10 seems down...even the MVC is bad. Are only the Big East and ACC up this year? Any other conferences?
