Barking Dog Deterrent

I had two yappers next door as well, top day of my life when they escaped the fence never to be seen again. Owners got two new dogs but they are inside execpt for potty breaks and rarely bark. Elite upgrade.
Wonder how long they planned their escape or if they had outside assistance which ended badly?

I have a neighbor two doors down that has a doggie door that allows their dog to enter their fenced back yard. The couple went through a divorce and the wife got the house. Since that happened, she lets the dog have access to the doggie door in the middle of the night. This means that the dog almost nightly for over a year is in the back yard barking non stop from 2am to 4am. I know other neighbors have complained and she promised to close the doggie door at night. That only lasted a couple of weeks. Recently, I have noticed a change. When the dog started barking, a horn would sound almost immediately. I'm assuming another neighbor must have gotten a noise device. The horn seems to stop the barking almost immediately. Now the dog doesn't come out at night or it is not barking at night.
You should get a machine that plays a coyote howl every time the horn goes off.

Having a dog is like a big, hairy toddler for 12 years. Many good owners train their dogs and have awesome dogs, and some breeds are just naturally more obedient or quieter. It’s still an animal, and it doesn’t speak human. Dogs bark for a lot of reasons… protection, communication, “I’m hungry!”, etc.

I have friends whose whole social lives revolve around their dog. Can’t travel, can’t stay out for dinner, have to deal with behavioral issues, etc. We have cats and we can leave for a weekend with no issues.

We have a neighbor who lets their dog out and it barks at everything. There’s a fine line in letting a dog outside vs putting it outside. If it’s barking for unmet needs in the house, it just becomes everyone else’s problem outside the house. Owners can only do so much, but some can do a lot better. Still, we can’t assume neglect just because a dog likes to bark.

But you can assume they are an inconsiderate neighbor.

Definitely have a barker at home. I don't leave her outside unattended because of that. Once a barker, not likely to ever stop. Basically have to curb that behavior as a puppy, or it never goes away, and that's best-case scenario.

As for the topic of pointing bark stoppers at other dogs, I wouldn't even bother. Very, very small chance it works well. Barkers will often still bark regardless of a dog whistle.

I don’t know - this can go so many ways…just like everything else in life.

People get annoyed because someone pulls out in front of them while the person behind them was annoyed because they didn’t go fast enough.

Some people get annoyed because people are here illegally sucking away our tax dollars while others are annoyed that people aren’t allowed to roam about the world freely.

Then you’ve got people annoyed because people are taking too many items to the self checkout while others are annoyed because a person takes up a checker with only five items…or because they’re writing a check.

People from a hundred years ago would call us all soft and self-centered…and they’d probably not be wrong.

Freeze a "lick mat" with peanut butter and go toss it out there a couple times a day. Probably buy you more silence than anything else. It's my secret weapon every time I have to bring my 110lb dog anywhere. Holiday dinner with kids running around? Peanut butter lick mat outside, see ya in an hour buddy.

weed gummies also work, so Im told.

Anyone have experience with those longer range sound devices? Supposed to be humane. Works up to few hundred feet so they say. Neighbor has a Great Pyranees. From the second its out, to when they command it back (fortunately only 5 to 10 minutes) it never stops barking. They will not put a bark collar on it. So its time for me to take action. We live rural. Thanks.

Is it barking at something specific? How close is it to your house?

Mentioned rural as didn't want people suggesting call the police. Yes, ill complain. Here in this house 7 years with silence. While rural their fence is 150 feet from our house. Its obnoxious that people do that to your neighbors. Shave its neck and put a shock collar on it ... or get rid of the dog.
Sounds like it's time for you to pack up and move!

Honestly I've taped them. There is a gap in the fence and without them seeing or hearing me they just bark. Certainly hearing me triggers them as well. My other neighbors have a dog and if they and the kids are outside they'll run to their privacy fence and just growl and bark. Appreciate the advice though.
Maybe try those plastic port holes so the dog can see outside?

We have a lot of barking dogs in our neighborhood. It's just kind of white noise to me, I don't notice them most of the time
