Barking Dog Deterrent

Yeah. Honestly you might just have to live with it. In town, I get not tolerating constant barking dogs that are really close to your house. If you're rural, you might have to tolerate it. I'm curious how close the neighbors are.
Their backyard fence is 150 feet to my front door. While rural, the houses are still close. 1.5 acre lots.

Have you talked to the neighbor about interacting with their dogs to socialize them to you? Dog will generally stop barking at people they "know" vs an "unknown" person across the fence. Just a thought to help you out.
Honestly I've taped them. There is a gap in the fence and without them seeing or hearing me they just bark. Certainly hearing me triggers them as well. My other neighbors have a dog and if they and the kids are outside they'll run to their privacy fence and just growl and bark. Appreciate the advice though.

Unlike some others on here, I feel for the OP. Move? Come on. Live with it? It’s maddening to make you succumb to entitled dog owners. So many more examples of this. Like the one thread about people putting poop bags in your garbage bin on the street. Some people were ok with that. Come on. People who let their unleashed dogs run at nature areas where there are signs saying not to while I need to avoid stepping in piles of it. People who put a plastic bag of poop on the ground and leave it there. I could go on and on

Document the problem with times and dates, record if necessary.

Speak directly to the neighbor.

If you really live in a rural area, contact the sheriff. Check with them or the Board of Supervisors to see what the county's nuisance laws say.

Depending on what they say, you can then have your lawyer draft a cease and desist letter before going to court.

If any of that works, let me know.

We have to keep our windows closed at night in the summer because the racoons keep having bar fights in our back yard at 2 a.m. and the cursing gets pretty loud sometimes.

It's absolutely amazing how negligent some dog owners are...maybe that's being kind as I'm sure some just don't care. If our dog is out barking at something or someone we try to bring him in asap or quiet him. I'm oblivious to a lot of my surroundings but always try to be respectful with having a dog. I've been places where the dog owners don't seem to notice their dog jumping up at my kids or barking constantly ect.

When my dog was still alive, they got the death penalty along with the occasional (but totally innocent) squirrel.

I was thinking that if the neighbor dogs are Great Pyrenees, OP should convert his garage to look like these sheds in New Zealand.

Having a dog that likes to hear her own voice more often than I would like...I get it. We do our best to keep it to a minimum and get on her/bring them in when they bark, especially at neighbors in their yards.

Love dogs, but the people who own them are questionable.

Exactly what I was thinking. If the breed is known for "barking at air" (& everything else), why TF would anyone want one?
I always have the same question when I see the wife/husband of a really loud obnoxious person. Why would you do this to yourself?

Mentioned rural as didn't want people suggesting call the police. Yes, ill complain. Here in this house 7 years with silence. While rural their fence is 150 feet from our house. Its obnoxious that people do that to your neighbors. Shave its neck and put a shock collar on it ... or get rid of the dog.
150' away? My neighbors have barkers (maybe not to that extent), but the fence line is 10' from the house. It's something that we can hear at times over the TV, and it's annoying, but at 150', I'm not sure I could even hear them. Maybe put some sound reduction on the walls facing that direction?

You live rural and are complaining about a Great Pyranees doing exactly what it's genetically wired to do. They guard their territory by roaming the land and barking loudly.
Lol I grew up on a farm in an old house with no AC and would fall asleep in the summer as a kid with the windows open to the sweet serenade of coyotes yipping in the distance and our dogs barking in return. Never been bothered by a neighbor's barking dog. :)
