B12 Board

I want nothing to do with those divisions just due to travel.

Maybe something like:

Old Timers

Iowa State
Oklahoma State
Kansas State
Kansas
Baylor
Texas Tech

Young pups

BYU
WV
TCU
Houston
UCF
Cincinnati

This would be fun until the Old Timers division turns into the old big 12 north, or even worse, the current Big 10 west.

I don't understand why conferences have rigid divisions, I think the SEC/Big 10 could benefit from a rotation every 2-4 years to maximize match-ups, yet also keep some traditional annual rivalries as well.

The new Big 12 has a pretty clear North vs South divide. East vs West gets a bit muddled as to possibly splitting up in Kansas and Texas.
The south division makes sense, but the problem is that you now have BYU paired with West Virginia and Cincinnati.

BYU and Eastern Time zone games suck no matter what. That’s what you get when you have a conference in 3 time zones.

Right but BYU isn’t as bad of a trip for teams in Texas and Oklahoma as it is for eastern teams, and vice versa.

Nobody's going to road trip that (speaking for the teams). Orlando to Salt Lake City is a 5 hour flight direct. Houston to Salt Lake City is 3.5 hours direct. 1.5 hour difference.

Not that I'm saying I like having a team two time zones away being in the same division, but we're not really in a position to be able to do much else.

Salt Division Pepper Division
WVU UCF
Cinci Baylor
Houston TT
ISU BYU
KSU Kansas
TCU OSU

Split the new teams 2 in each division. BYU, UCF, WVU have already had to travel distance. With division crossover games, it can't be avoided.

I think we should let Slime Mold decide. Apparently, it can map out the most efficient path between cities (using oats). Bizarre, I know.

Divisions are bad for competitiveness and cohesiveness. I don't know what the answer is. I really liked a ten team conference with full round robins though.

If you think UCF is going to avoid traveling to BYU you are crazy. This isn’t the Big 10 where you play a team once every 8 years.

Obviously we will play them, we actually were traveling to Provo in 2023 anyways until we got the B12 invite, but it would be easier for everyone as a whole if BYU was in the west and Iowa State played in the east.

Maybe. But you gotta earn your stripes before you start expecting things be given to you there young pup.

My guess at the divisions

Hall:
UCF
WVU
Cincy
Iowa St
Kansas
K-State

Oates:
BYU
Tech
OSU
TCU
Baylor
Houston

Big 10 had legends and leaders, which was truly awful. I propose something cooler like Hall & Oates.

Yeah, but even though we took **** for it the 10 team league was the golden age for the conference in terms of money, exposure, and cohesiveness. Even though we are moving on from it, I think we are going to miss it.

Agreed. **** OU and Texas
