If this is the attitude of the common ISU fan then we will fail. And unfortunately that attitude is completely consistent with what we have seen in the past. People have the capacity to donate even if it is at small amounts; they simply choose not to because we are collectively a very cheap fanbase.

It has nothing to do with a cheap fanbase or defeatist attitude or whatever excuse you want to come up with.

It's a small fanbase without super mega donors and even if every single person and their children and pets donated, ISU won't keep up with other larger fanbases with megadonors if they do the same because more people donating=more money to use for those athletes which will be more than what ISU's fans can provide. It's not that complicated.

If an average fan can’t give $5 a month ($60 year) ($.17 a day) to the NIL fund then we might as well accept an invitation to C-USA because that is where our fans (collectively) are willing to compete. Every little bit is going to count.

It’s not about “can’t”. It’s about “won’t”. Read the room. I’m not cheap. I’m going to spend that money on drugs and alcohol while on vacation Mexico.

It was in another thread weeks ago but in the Big 12, Iowa State is in the top half of number of alumni and is dead last in dollars donated. We are frugal (to put it mildly).

A good percentage of STEM and Ag folks don't care 1 iota about sports. That's probably been exacerbated by the decline in casual high school sports participation. I was an underskilled, undersized 5 at my 2A high school, but I started some and was a solid rotation player -- today I wouldn't even have been on the team.

I know neither of my kids (1 Engr, 1 LAS) would even watch ISU on TV, much less go to games, if I wasn't already going. And if I dropped tickets, they would never go back.

Donors are typically built over time. Until JP showed up, donating wasn’t really cultivated by the AD. We are way behind and this isn’t something that you just say hey we want money and you get thousands of dollars.

How many people donate more than 2% of their income? Many times they release public officials tax returns (only public ones to my knowledge) and many are in the 0.5 - 2.0 percent donation levels even pulling a quarter mil a year. We need to get people to understand that $100 is not a big donation.

I know all too well it is “won’t”. I also know that this same group is going to be screaming at the AD, coaches and high level donors because we should be getting better talent…..just don’t ask THEM for any money.

We have the 3rd largest alumni base in the new Big 12 and are dead last in fundraising. It has everything to do with being a cheap fanbase.

Then what is your solution? Are you okay with joining C-USA or the Mountain West?

To be fair I’m guessing you spend more than $60 a year on drugs and alcohol.

The whole "Name Image Likeness" thing is a ruse, at best. These kids aren't being paid for their name, image, or likeness; they're being paid to play. So my wish is that this bs is set aside and call it what it really is - pay-to-play.

Tyrese Hunter isn't going to UNC (or wherever) because his name will pay him $1M/yr. He's going to get paid that because the donors think he can add to W's. His name, image, or likeness will not add any money to a business because of advertising. It's just stupid.

If ISU is smart they will begin having the "kids" sign NIL contracts that tie them to the area; a non-compete so to speak. I had to sign one with my company and they should have to do the same.

Ya, add a few zeros. There’s a tipping point where what amounts to buying players is going to turn a bunch of people off. I don’t want to have all the ******** of being an owner of a team yet getting none of the benefits of owning a team. I’m not going to further this stupid arc by participating willingly in it.

Of course not. And I don't have a solution...I'm not sure there is one without caps on this stuff.

But I'm not going to pretend that donations are going to magically allow ISU to keep up while other, bigger alumni and fanbases will do the same.

So if ISU were 3rd in donations in the new Big 12...where does that leave them if a blueblood comes calling for a player?

Hopefully some of the $8+ million it would require to get to 3rd would be donated to the NIL collective.

The equivalent of 5.8 large Caseys taco pizzas.

And when blue bloods match that or better without hardly lifting a finger?
