Does anybody know of a good, honest auto mechanic in the Des Moines area? Preferably located on the North side? I used to use Higgins quite a bit but lately they have been disappointing.

I've had good luck with O'Brien's in Beaverdale (at Beaver and Douglas). Always fair pricing, and they've always checked with me before doing anything, rather than just doing things w/out asking and giving you the bill like some do.

Drake Garage has been recognized several times as the best in town. They are not on the North side, actually in the Drake neighborhood.

If you own a Honda then Harger Auto next to Firestone is excellent.

I agree with O'Brien on Douglas in Beaverdale. I have had very good luck there and the owner is VERY accessible. On Ultimate Automotive, I've had both good and lukewarm experiences there. I go back once in awhile.
