Audi Crooks to Transfer

I’ll share one tidbit I heard directly from someone who knows. They described the ladies (in general) in the locker room as “entitled.” That one word encapsulates everything bad about modern college athletics.
I have some complex feelings about that because 1) well, it's the coaches then that need to light a fire and make sure that everyone feels like they need to buy in to something, and 2) that's a strong and loaded term that I'd be careful about bandying about without knowing the full context (not you, but whoever said it). However, you can also tell that beyond some like AJ - and even Audi and Kenzie, the effort at the end of the year just wasn't there in the same way.

The players that left when Prohm was fired left behind 2 wins...there is/was a lot more talent on this past season's WBB team!

Prohm was fired on March 15, 2021.

NIL started on July 1, 2021, following NCAA rule changes and state legislation.

Prohm didn't have to deal with NIL and still only won 2 games.

I don't this has anything to do with money. Something seems very toxic with the program right now to have it all burned to the ground in a week with all the players leaving.

On the flip side to this that might be exactly all it is. For as talented as she is, she's also very limited, and probably will be limited in WNBA. So I can see this just as her wanting to max out what she can make in the college ranks before it's over.

I’m guessing the source has a Fennelly-leaning bias?

Did they share specific examples? Not saying they’re necessarily wrong, but I’ll take that commentary with a grain of salt.

On the flipside. I don't see where she makes as much money has she has at Iowa State. No big time program is going to spend a bunch of money on her game. No fans will treat her like Iowa State fans have. She made good NIL money here because our fans bought into her. I could be wrong. However, I think she will make less money wherever she goes. Maybe she will have a better shot at making a better run in the tourney though

I think some people, Jamie included in that video, are downplaying how massively disappointing it is to lose Jada Williams, Addy Brown and especially Audi Crooks. Yes, some others schools have lost some players and there are a lot of names in the transfer portal but this is an extreme outlier here. Just because it is happening to a lesser extent at a few other places doesn't mean it should be happening here with players like the ones I named and a coach who has been here for multiple decades.

Obviously this is a bad situation but do not forget the NCAA allowing NIL and open transfer opportunity to ruin college sports. If I am a good enough proven player who can make bag over a few years I have left and am mature enough to know that I am not a pro level commodity or actually do not want to extend my playing career, I'm taking the money while I can

If she leaves the Midwest Fareway will likely drop her which is probably her most lucurative NIL deal.

I just pray she doesn't wind up at Iowa or another Big12 school. Having to play against her in conference or have Iowa media covering her would just be twisting a knife into the hearts of ISU fans.

It’s really not surprising to hear players who are more into social media clicks and money to come across this way. Today it’s all about image and income generation. Thats society for our youth period. Finding players like AJ or Ryan who have a commitment to the school is becoming a rare commodity.

Honestly, I think it reveals Jamie's intention for NIL. Football and basketball are the money makers and will get as much support as they can afford to give them. Everything else is going to be supported like it was before NIL, but not much more. Those programs will have to do the best that they can with the support that they can individually generate.

Nope, I just don't believe this. This is the good of NIL. Young lady has worked hard to increase her value and has the ability to leave a bad situation for a better situation, both playing style and monetarily. This is how the system should work.

If I were to guess she goes to Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio St., Michigan (may not fit playing style though) or the SEC.

You could be right. But I doubt she's going anywhere else for less, especially as you note no one else will love her as we have. There's surely some team out there that has more weapons all around that can compensate for her defensive liability, and adding a big makes sense and they're willing pay a premium on that we can't afford. Just speculation though on my part.

I feel like all teens & early 20s people are entitled so that tracks. The issue is as a coach do you have a way to address that?

Not saying I agree or want this but womens/Olympic sports at schools like ours are DEAD.
Wrestling probably survives but at some point how do you justify spending money to keep talent when no money comes in?
Those sports will exist but the quality will be much much less.
