Auburn (Chizik) Bribed Players

I have a hunch that this is just standard practice for most SEC programs; Alabama & Florida have been better at hiding it so far. Not that the NCAA wants any of it uncovered anyways. Wouldn't want to hurt the cash cow.

Guys, nothing will come of this. Scam Newton's dad admitted to taking money...ADMITTED, and Scam got away free.

ISU makes after hours phone calls and gets two years probation, while Auburn dishes out money to players and gets yelled at.

Nothing like bringing a pro team to a college ball game.

Did he pay with those Chiz coins?

Chiz called me and wanted to buy my coins for 20 cents on the dollar. Silly me for telling him that they were worth more at the coin operated car wash. Maybe someday I will learn. :twitcy:

I hope they get the death penalty but I doubt it will happen. I'm also not sure what power the NCAA has to do some of this since he isn't coaching anymore but I hope that they ban Chizik from coaching in college and fine the crap out of him, preferably to the point where he is living in a teepee when this is all said and done.
The death penalty is only given out to institutions who don't self report and are repeat offenders(at least thats what SMU did) I would compare this to the Rhett Bomar situation at Oklahoma but I think Auburn will get more sanctions than Oklahoma did if the allegations are true.

yeah, there will be no death penalty for Auburn, even if every allegation is found to be true. That's just not the way it works.

Chiz is the headline, but the USA Today story mentioned a guy getting $400 from an assistant in 2007 who is now the Florida head coach? Seems like more people should be getting in trouble than Chiz, although granted, he deserves anything he gets. I want the title pulled.

Wish they would go after the mighty SEC as opposed to the ISU phone calls or the likes of Caltech letting their athletes shop for classes so they can decide whether they want to take quantum mechanics or thermodynamics for a given term.

I'm seeing some misconceptions in this thread, from people saying "the NCAA going after Iowa State for telephone calls..."

The NCAA didn't go after ISU. ISU self-reported.

Well sure we know that, but we haven't seen what they will do. And the past few years seem to show a lot more interest in going after nothing as opposed to the Cam Newton type situations.

The only thing that worries me is if he did this at Auburn, who's to say he didn't do it at Iowa State? Obviously we don't have the "Big football" culture of Auburn and its ready access to cash-heavy morally corrupt boosters, but it still worries me.

NCAA Compliance Official #1: "Well, let's discuss these cases at ISU and Auburn."

NCAA Compliance Official #2: "Two very different cases. Clearly, one is much more serious than the other."

NCAA Compliance Official #3: "Yeah, Auburn paid some players and changed some grades to keep others eligible, but then everybody does that! ISU, my God! They actually failed to keep a record of calls and text messages that were not completed to recruits! Such egregious behavior! CHEATERS! We can't have that!"

NCAA Compliance Official #2: "Plus, don't forget the coach at Auburn, Gene Chizik, had left ISU after only 2 years. No doubt he learned the behavior he practiced at Auburn while he was at ISU! Had he not coached at ISU, he may never have had the problems at Auburn!"

NCAA Compliance Official #3: "And, ISU had the nerve to do their own investigation, which is our job, and then suggest their own punishment! The gall, impudence and effrontery of that institution, its athletic department, and in particular Jamie Pollard is astounding!"

NCAA Compliance Official #1: "Well, it seems we will be in agreement then as to the punishments. The so-called 'death penalty' for ISU, and 2 months probation in April and May for Auburn, plus Auburn must limit its spirit squad to 48 for the next 3 years. All those in favor say 'aye'. "

NCAA Compliance Official #2: "Aye."

NCAA Compliance Official #3:b "Aye."

NCAA Compliance Official #1: "Aye. The motion passes."

I agree. I would hope he didn't. It's really said if he did considering he would have cheated and still only went 5-19.

How bad would the NCAA look like once they reinvestigate Auburn this time with these new claims being and finding them to be true? What a black eye to the NCAA if they find something bad including sCam Newton!!!

Since Mr. Janny was so kind to point out my tardiness I'll just post here instead.

Before anyone gets too excited consider the source. Selena Roberts was the one who ran with the Duke LAX story years ago and that turned out to be completely bogus which is why she's a former SI & NYT writer. And this isn't the way it's done anyway. The head coach is never directly involved unless he's an idiot.

You mean Chiz paying players to stick around in Ames one more year rather than bolt for the NFL?? LOL. Chiz had all of zero draftable players on his first team.
