She was one of my favorite players (soft spot for shooters), but this makes sense. She lost some mojo late in the season, and I don't think her defense was ever up to BF's expectations for rotation players. She was often lost on that end, but it wasn't for a lack of effort. I got the sense from watching her that she has been a scorer and not much else for most of her life. I loved her willingness to mix it up inside for rebounds. She'll help someone, and I wouldn't be surprised to see her have a nice year for a good team.
I immediately thought UNI. Good school if she is keeping her major. Probably already friends and classmates there.

The entire situation is one that those of us outside of family and team can only guess about. IMO we have to hope her statements are accurate and she is leaving (a) in good standing and feelings towards ISU and (b) in search of a team that she can have a higher level of contribution. I honestly felt she could have created a bigger role as a part of the Sisters, but it would have been difficult to break through a ten minute per game level. Some have mentioned not wanting to see her at Iowa. While Iowa has a 1-2 punch and then a big drop off it’s possible Aubrey could contribute there. BUT everyone knows what happened to the last ISU player who fell into that gapping pit. Wishing her the best and I hope she finds a team she can be a major part of.

I think either of the S. Dakota schools would be a good choice for her.

This seems more like a girl who wants to become something that isn’t a profession offered at Iowa state. Which I am totally down with her moving into a new school. Girl athletes are really student athletes

Hate to see her leave as she is a player who always gave it her all on the court. Hope she finds a team that needs her skills. IMO it is wanting more playing time and we have a number of players who all want time and only 200 minutes a game to be shared. Everyone wants every player to be a great player but when they all are there is not enough minutes to keep them all happy. I will not be surprised to see more leave in future years with the caliber of players we are getting. That is the curse of good recruiting some players leave.
Agree
I liked Aubrey. She had several games with quite a few rebounds. That really impressed me, and it seemed maybe she was more than just a shooter. I also really wish her well, and with the right fit, she will score a bunch of points.

I was a big Aubrey fan especially for her rebounding efforts. However, with the diminishing minutes as the season drew down, something needed to spark a reversal. Then, with Diew showing significant improvement throughout the season, Ashley announcing another year, and Fritz coming back next year after injury, the fight for minutes suddenly looked worse than better. So, disappointed as I am, this is not a surprise and hope nothing but the best for her. She wants to play a significant role, not be a back-up, which is very understandable. I'd love to see her at Drake, UNI, or even Creighton where she can get those minutes.

Not exactly sure.
This happens with good teams. They recruit better players the better they get. Fuerenbach (sp?) left when it was apparent Aubrey and MEM (coming back) we’re going to basically take her minutes. Now we have other ladies taking their minutes. You hate to see them go, but understand they want to play and not ride pine. I wish her well and success.

How often does a head coach do this?
Well, maybe a coach who wants to impress her older sister Ashley (star of his current team), her younger sister Kelsey (City High star who's committed to ISU), and of course her dad (after all his youngest daughter is pretty good too).
I'd want to stay in the good graces of the Joens family too...

Heard from a source close to the family, Aubry was told she could return, but she wouldn't likely see the floor next year.

I have a tough time believing a coach would tell one of his top bench players that they wouldn't get minutes the next year. The best players play.

But the reality is with Ashley coming back, that takes away 30+ mpg that Aubrey, Maggie and Denae thought would be available for them on next year's team. It's not like Emily or Lexi are going to see reduced minutes next year.

And if Bill strategically plans on playing a taller lineup where Nyamer starts, then it becomes a numbers game. And Aubrey would have a pretty good idea about the pecking order based on this past season.

She might also see the 2023 recruiting class and decide its a good time to transfer for her final 3 years.

The bright side is we have good players leaving due to of lack of playing time.
