Athletic Facilities across the Nation

So are they proceeding with the rest of the stadium renovations after the season? Last I saw, they wanted to do a bunch of other stuff like a hotel and student housing but they were out of funds.
I THINK that is what they want to do but don't think the funding/plan is all there yet. Guessing it might have to wait till after '26 season.

I'd hate to have a seat next to that corner press box. You wouldn't be able to see half the stadium.

I gotta say, though, I'm one of those Cyclones who sat in that stadium in 2005 and witnessed such a disappointing outcome.

I do remember, before kickoff and finding our seats that I thought what a miserable stadium. Old concrete stands that appeared to be 90 years old. The track pushed us back from the action more than it should have.

Glad KU is stepping it up, good for the Big 12. It's not all good, but also I have things to complain about JTS that I think aren't all good.

Go Big 12. They are our kin.

Whenever this facilities bubble bursts (maybe it already has) those companies that make those super fancy lockers are going to struggle!!!

Back-to-back articles in my news feed yesterday, a microcosm of the state of affairs.

(1) KU (athletics) gets $25M gift for stadium/district
(2) KU (university) immediate hiring freeze; admin to find $32M in savings

They are finally going to build the new Aloha Stadium for Hawaii after the old one was condemned in 2020:

$400mil, wowzer. That's almost $18,000/seat. Most of it, though, must be going to that ridiculously huge press box. But, maybe it's more fat cat suites.

Hopefully with this renovation they get some new turf as well. The last turf they had is one of the few still left that you still get pretty significant scrapes on your arms & knees.
Coming in 2027 after the major construction is done. They're actually looking at a tray system rather than the rolls so that you can get better depth to it, it's just a whole hell of a lot harder to store when it's up.

Texas new locker room:

College is dumb because even though they now are paying huge sums for players schools will still need to keep up in the arms race to update their locker rooms and facilities every few years with shiny things because their recruiting literal children.

When they went into the locker room, I instantly had the sound of jackpots going off like in a casino.

I could see this aspect decreasing in value. Now that you can pay players, the importance of new fancy facilities every couple of years may diminish. You still need to have good facilities, but you don’t have to out do your competitors. Before NIL, having fancy facilities and amenities was the only legal way to recruit and sway/woo players.
