Just like in football, if a team struggles in basketball, some assistants get the boot. After this year, who is safe and what assistant coaches may be let go?

Small is the only one whose name I can remember right now. Fire small! Oh, and danyal Robinson. Dude was a bum with McDermott and now he's prohms left hand

The only reason to keep CSP and change all the assistants is if you want to save $$ and keep him as a figurehead.

You need major improvement in about 85% of the things the coaching staff is responsible for.

It's not like they have one weakness and the right guy would help a ton (e.g. Bobby Lutz to teach you in-game coaching, or Doc Sadler to teach everyone how to spell defense). There ain't no simple fix for what's broke...

I would personally be surprised if there wasn’t a bit of a staff shakeup after the season. Prohm is safe for another year at least, but I have to think they want to bring in a different view.

This is a good discussion, pretty predictable that everyone is going to jump in and point the finger at Prohm, but hopefully doesn't distract too much from the question that was posed. I'm not saying that as guy trying to defend Prohm, but 1) he's going to be our coach next year so talking about changing the head spot next year isn't really worth our time and 2) changes at the assistant level do have the potential to make a significant change in many of the problems we are seeing.

So back to the assistants the challenge with answering that question in a basketball program is it's not really clear what roles people play on the staff. On a football team the roles are more clear. If the offensive line is struggling it's easier to know (for a fan) where the changes likely need to be made. That is less clear on a basketball team.

As hard as it is for some here to admit there are things that coach Prohm is really good at. He can clearly recruit and he is consistently puts out a highly efficient offense. At the same time he clearly has weaknesses. His rotations are awful and his defenses are consistently bad. There are very few coaches that excel at teaching both offense and defense. The ones that you think are good at both, probably actually aren't, they are just good at utilizing their assistants. Shaking up the staff to compliment areas Prohm isn't as strong could have a really strong impact next season.

Personally I expect Prohm to be just as stubborn with his coaching staff as he is with his lineups so I doubt it happens.

What happens with assistants will be a decent indicator if Prohm is feeling pressure, and if he’s willing to do what he’s clearly uncomfortable doing to try to right the ship.

I think you make a good point about. If I'm Jamie I would almost demand changes in this area. With out pressure from Jamie I agree I doubt it does. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Its pretty common for assistants to move on but is it common for 2? 3? in one year? That's gotta be telling and affect recruiting right?
