Has the rot started to creep in?

Technically the CCG is classified as being between the best team and second best team according to conference record.

So we would be the best team in the conference season. Can’t call them regular season champs though cause it pisses you rotters off.

I'm not a rotter. Far from it.

There's literally not a regular season conference champ.

Anywhere.

Why are the best seasons ahead? This year was a peak year. Guessing we return fewer starters than last year and won’t dodge the 3 best teams in the Big 12 next year. Also, how much longer will Oklahoma State, Utah, TCU, Baylor be down?
What are you based on peak year? Will we have 30 starters or key contributors out with injury? We get K-State on a neutral site so don't have to go to Manhattan, that helps. Not at home, but better than a road game.

QB - sophomore
RB's - both top 2, sophomores
TEs- all should in theory be back and healthy
OL - okay, we lose 3 starters but Maro's played in almost every game, Neal the staff likes, I'm not sold on it but I don't matter that much in the scheme of things
WR's - obviously this is big but other than WR, most of the offense has starters or returning contributors. Presuming we've recruited modestly decently or better, we should be OK.

DL - in theory, Orange is back. TO as well. So, 2/3 or 2/4 of our best DL. Plus Hawk, and I think all the other guys. So again, not bad.

LB- I honestly don't know who we lose since I'd imagine some guys redshirt or get a medical hardship

DB - Okay, we lose Purchase, Beau. That hurts. But again, in theory, Verdon and Cooper are back plus Williams plus other guys who've played.

Specialists, all back.

Another year of experience for our OC, etc...

Do I think we start 7-0 next year? IDK. But I will say the idea that we are somehow going to take this huge step back next year I don't understand that concept

You’re forgetting we’ll need money to keep a lot of these guys. And the rotters seem to deny that

The same people that gobble the pre-season hype merchants are now the “we’re ISU we’ve always been bad” people so shut up and take your ass whooping by KU and like it. Matt Campbell remains a genius.
Man... I must be old .

Back in my day, Nebraska beating us 70-7 was an ass whupping.

Now losing by 9 points to the same team that just won at undefeated and top 10 BYU , should have beat K-State, is an ass whupping. I'm old man.

Seriously. Tell, me, I love Iowa State but... what advantages does Iowa State have?

1) Great recruiting in state..... ahem... not in terms of numbers. There's a few, but its not like Texas, Florida, etc, where I roll out of bed and hit a bunch of top tier talent.

2) Extremely large alumni base (ah, passionate, yes. Extremely large? Probably not)
3) Super rich donors. Rich, yes, super rich like Phil Knight or Texas oil money? No.
4) Is in one of the two most profitable leagues by TV sharing revenue... well.
5) Is the largest university in its state in terms of fan support for football.... well.....
6) Can easily churn out large amounts of money for NIL money similar to Colorado or Texas Tech or Baylor - well.....

This idea that Iowa State football is somehow being held back from becoming what...?
Ask Georgia Tech how firing Paul Johnson worked out.
Nebraska after they canned Solich / Pelini. How are they doing? Pelini obviously a little bit different but still...
RIP, but how has firing Mike Leach worked out for Texas Tech?

I think CMC's clock / game management at times can be aggravating and the conservative nature is frustrating.

But I also know this....anyone who thinks we're somehow this sleeping giant and CMC is holding us back... please, get your eyes checked.

I love me some Frank Cignetti. I'd say he;'s one of the best 3-5 coaches in America regarding Cignetti. You give Cignetti Iowa State and he's not winning more 8 games a year on average. We are not some sleeping giant. We are not Goliath.

I get it. CMC pissed in your chili. Rinse out your bowl and recognize that while its okay to not like conservative play calling, boring press conferences etc and that's fine, a dose of reality is also good. Otherwise your just an Iowa fan who thinks you should be in the Rose bowl every year somehow.

But this is precisely the problem. For ISU to reach the next level, we need everything to go our way. If our team is getting knee-capped before they even get on the field by a coach that can’t call the right plays, can’t manage a clock, and can’t make second-half adjustments, we’re stuck where we are. ISU as a program has peaked, and this is the best there is ever going to be.

Which is fine if you like losing to Memphis in the Liberty Bowl.

My main point is we need a differentiator in order to win titles, we aren’t doing that, we’re just another team with the same offense as everyone else and now everyone has the same defense too. That defensive adjustment in whatever year it was is what differentiated us and led us to really good things. Now it seems like we are done evolving and everyone is going to be happy being in the top half of the Big 12 West and going to Memphis 3 out of every 5 years because “well we weren’t good before so we don’t deserve to be good now.” Or whatever people are trying to say.

There are thousands of cyclone fans that have opened up their pocket books to try to help make this team better. That’s better in my book than you sitting here whining that we’re not winning national championships. Be better
