When someone passes away a lot of people will say that they are "in a better place"..... I always thought that was dumb.... until my friend from Arkansas died. Then it all made sense.

On a serious note. Welcome to Cyclone Fanatic. I'm looking forward to Saturday's game. We had a former running back transfer there, Johnny Lang, but I don't think he did much there.

Did well as a returner on special teams. Doesn't look to have played much on offense.

I love the guy, but his press conferences are usually 100% coach speak. I'll tune in on occasion, but it's essentially the same press conference from week to week. That being said, you'll still be the most athletic team we've faced. Given that the first 2 teams were North Dakota and Iowa, I'm not sure that's a bold statement.

It'll be interesting to see how weather factors into the game. Rain and wind has a way to make anyone's prediction look silly. I think adverse conditions would favor us, but I'd rather watch a game where each team's strengths are on display. It's more fun. Campbell isn't focused on style points and if he sees he has an advantage with a ground and pound style, he'll take a boring 17-7 field position win.

In terms of your WRs, I'm struggling to remember the last time that ISU was beaten predominantly with stellar WR play. It's normally teams that are either run dominant or extremely balanced that give us fits. Our DBs may give up some underneath throws, but they are normally solid with downfield coverage. Our pass rush does a good job preventing long-developing plays through the air as well. Our defense is predicated by everyone doing their job. A bonus for us is that one of our DBs is a 6'4" state record holder in the 400m and is coming off one of his best games.
SEMO moved the ball well without a run game in 2022. They had a good QB who could scramble and a couple good receivers, one of which went in the sixth round to the Cowboys. Their RBs only rushed for 24 yards, but the QB had 296 total yards. Of course they only scored 10 and their defense didn’t hold, but I remember being impressed at how they made do. The best teams in the Big 12 have been running teams for several years now, so if ASU is strong on the outside and the QB can be a dual threat, I think we may be tested in a rare way. Definitely unlike our first two opponents.

Still, ISU wants to see improvement stopping the run with three understudy linebackers to feel good heading into conference play. ISU fans are most interested in how we stop the run between the 20s, but the game itself will likely be decided in the red zone. ASU will need to score touchdowns, because I don’t suspect ISU’s offense will be slowed much.

Went down the rabbit hole. Look at SEMO’s last game. Wowza. Same QB.

Yeah, I was concerned when I saw the Michigan score, but when I saw game recap, they were up 28-3 going into 4th quarter, AFTER turning the ball over at least three if not four times. Arkansas scored twice in last two drives, when Michigan was said to have second and third units on the field. At least that is what I read.
I watched some of the first quarter and it wasn't like the Red Wolves looked like they didn't belong on the field with Michigan. At that point they were playing with them and competing.

If i remember correctly Arkansas state is located in a dry country of Arkansas so they don't even have liquor stores there.

Saying all that unrelated, I could understand a fanbase feeling good about believing they can move the ball against the linebackers but to act like attacking our strength on the defense the secondary is real strategy is hilarious.
Craighead County is dry in name only. Some jokingly call it "the wettest dry county in the country."

They have an alcohol license system that allows club members to buy alcohol. A club membership essentially comes with your first drink.

My brother used to live in Jonesboro.

A few things I noticed:

  • Their James Reed at 5'10", 192 lbs. reminds me of Iowa State's James Reed (6'0", 285) from days gone by in name only.
  • They talk about Butch wanting to run between the tackles. ISU's tight formation 3-3 stack is built to push the run game wide so athletic LBs and Ss can pursue down the line of scrimmage.
  • They are going to have a long day if they show up at Kinnick Stadium.

Heck, even easier than that now. The first year they sold beer at the stadium (2022?) You had to go down to this area behind the Eastside concourse and drink it in the "Bet Saracen Beer Garden".

Finally this year you can now just get it on the normal concourse and take it back to your seat.

You might not wanna mention selling beer in your stadium. That’s a very sore subject around here.

My dearest Jamie Pollard,

A stadium located within a dry county sells beer. Go **** yourself, respectfully.

Love,

And don't forget mobile QBs. The 3-3 stack has a hard time accounting for a scrambling QB with some speed and elusiveness.

Very true. Mobile QBs that can get outside the pocket and either run or dump off to a RB or TE are particularly pesky. I do think Heacock does a good job adjusting to that scheme by changing up where he brings pressure from (either sending an LB or a safety), but it usually takes a quarter of giving up a lot of yards before he corrals the opposition's success.

Make sure to wave at the kids for an entire 4 minutes or you will be vilified.... even in an empty stadium.
