I thought that thread was full of (mostly) reasonable and clearheaded takes.

I have to respect somebody to be enough of a fan of Arkansas State to post there. It can't be easy being a fan of a G5 program that is never going to have the resources or prestige of an Iowa State.

Think how we think of schools like Ohio State and Georgia and multiply that by ten.
Interesting. We don't think that way at all. The goal is to win conference championships and compete for an at large playoff berth.

You guys will see when you come to Jonesboro next year. We have facilities on par with P5 and we're a proud bunch with a storied history.

We haven't looked good at all really. I would be pretty optimistic if I were them. That said, I think we cover
Hey everyone. Arkansas State fan here visiting before the game. Just here for friendly banter and to answer any questions you have (if you have any).

We're optimistic to a fault, but mostly realistic about Saturday. Our offensive line will be together for the first time all year, and that includes 2 all conference selections. The run game should be better but I still expect ISU to keep it in check.

You'll probably be a little surprised at the athleticism at WR. Rucker and Jackson are both elite Wr that could play for just about anyone (Rucker just came back from South Carolina).

Malik Hornsby, the ex Arkansas QB, has crazy wheels and is getting more involved as a WR.

I expect we will be a little better than you think, but not as good as we hope.

We were 5-0 and then Dwayne Crutchfield got injured. Things went downhill without him.

Yeah there were a few seasons back then like that: good 1st half and then things dissolving.

I'd guess it was depth or lack of it having a big impact.

I've said it before: the 80s had 3 winning seasons and a couple thst were close. ISU wasn't what I would call good but going by bowl allotment over the past 20+ years, they'd be viewed maybe a little more favorably.

Not exactly sure.

Was he injured or it just got cold? I remember hearing stories (can’t remember if ISU or when he was at Waldorf) that he refused to practice if he thought it was cold outside.

Let me rephrase it more positively like this...

I appreciate the "small but mighty!" and "here to compete for championships against our peers and to try and take down teams a tier or two above us!" mentality I saw on that message board.

Seems we're similar in this regard.

My TL/DR version.

First, welcome to the board. We have outliers, but we generally pride ourselves on being friendly. You'll find that, for the most part, you'll get the same amount of respect you give.

Our fans have a mix of confidence and trepidation. While success is something we're getting used to, we still have a cozy blanket of nervousness that we're familiar with.

In terms of the game, our offense has dynamic players but the playcalling is still a work in progress. We tend to be a little vanilla at times. Someone on your board expressed frustration at the ol' run up the gut on first down for 2 yards. We can definitely feel your pain. However, if our line can impose its will and our run game gets going, you'll probably be in for a long day. If you have to commit LBs and safeties to defend our run game, our receivers are capable of getting chunk plays. They are really good and underrated from a conference standpoint.

Defensively, we'll likely give up some yards early, but our DC is masterful at making adjustments and taking away what teams like to do best. He is good at disguising coverages and making opposing QBs make strings of good decisions to succeed. Impatience is a downfall he thrives on. If you think you're going to pass all over our secondary without an established run game, you may want to temper your expectations.

I feel good about a double digit win, but not necessarily covering the spread. I think we could overlook AR State a bit and you're dangerous enough to make plays to take advantage of that. I just don't see you being able to sustain the surprise factor over an entire game.

My questions for you:
Are the Razorbacks your biggest source of trolls?
Who is your biggest rival?
What is your final score prediction?

I’ve seen a few public “hey, we need to get out for this team” posts from CW and even the football social media team. They don’t do that when sales are good.
The forecast/opponent combo will work hard against those efforts. I’ll be there though, rain or shine.

That being said... what do you see are IOWA STATE's keys to victory?
