Arkansas State fan here

NW Arkansas is one of my favorite places to getaway that's less than a day's drive. The real Ozarks, IMO. Excellent mountain biking, great beer and food scene, incredible hiking for the middle of the country, etc.

I realize that ain't Jonesboro, but Arkies are good people and I'm sure anyone going will have fun.
Yes we are good people and you will experience southern hospitality for those who come. Yes we are in the Arkansas delta. Flat land and rice fields everywhere, so we have a LOT of mosquitoes.

What is the general feeling among Arkansas State fans for the game? Is there excitement to be hosting a ranked P4 school?
Absolutely! ISU will be the highest ranked team to ever visit here. Ole Miss wasn't ranked when they came to town and Missouri was #22 when they came several years ago. As for the crowd it's difficult to say. Many were very unhappy and upset with the showing against Arkansas.

Well it was the first ever meeting in football, so it was hyped up. aIt was the last contracted game in Little Rock for Arkansas. It was also the first sell out in War Memorial Stadium for them in years. Needless to day we came out flat and spotted them 14 pts pretty fast. Things settled down somewhat after that, but the combination of them having a good qb and us playing awful defensive schemes spelled doom.

Wait, y'all are both state schools but never met in football??

Also, thanks for stopping by the board. FWIW, red is my favorite color of wolf.

So, should I add bug spray to my shopping list for tailgate supplies to buy when I get to Jonesboro?

“Arkie’s?” Is that what they call themselves? Or is that what people who are joking about them call them?

Are there fans of both teams? I assume its a lot closer to Iowa/ISU vs UNI than Iowa vs ISU. I'm sure there are plenty of people close to ASU that loathe the Razorbacks though.

Yes we are probably more like the UNI comparison as far as fans. We usually draw 20-25k for conference games as it's cooler by then. But yes, being the SEC team in the state they have a monopoly on fans even though their team usually struggles most years.

We’ll have a good showing down there. Although I’d venture to guess many are recovering from Ireland (both financially and liver health wise) still so numbers will be less than they would have otherwise.

Respect to your fan base then because we too went through a very similar period... Growing up, I remember falling in love with the Cyclones because our squads were just a bunch of scrappers against the world, while the team in black and gold seemed to have fans just because they were winning. Hell, I got bullied in school for wearing cardinal and gold because who would root for a bunch of losers? Rooting with your heart is hard work, but I've never regretted it for a minute.

You shouldn't need it until it gets toward sunset, then the little vampires come out. Surrounded by rice fields means you do not go outside at night for any length of time around here in the summer.

We can't stop much of anything. We have decent athletes but very poor schemes. We have had the best recruiting classes in the SBC the last few years but it's not paying dividends. Our DBs play well off the ball so underneath routes will work well. Most all ASU fans are predicting a blowout. Many were very disappointed in the poor effort against a not good Arkansas tram last week.
You guys had a decent season last year after non-con games. I'd expect the same this season. Tough to build momentum playing an SEC and Big 12 team in back to back weeks.

My brother in Christ, we get ALL the weather in Iowa. 100 degree heat? Check. Excessive humidity? Check. -30 air temp? Check. Pummeling blizzards? Check. Tornadoes? Check. Derechoes? Check. Year long droughts? Check. Catastrophic floods? Check.

Everything but earthquakes.

Good luck to your squad and thanks for stopping by.

Well said

Oh it's my Alma mater so I support them no matter what, even during the abysmal Joe Hollis years when crowds were in the hundreds. His last year was the first and still only time I've ever heard of a coach getting fired during a game.
That sounds like a story we need to hear. Fans down to a few hundred, tempers flare and then what?

Found a link, that sounds brutal and not so friendly.

Exactly. We usually just play one P5 every year and that is a buy game, rent-a-win for them. Gotta get money for the non revenue sports.

Stayed in Jonesboro for business back in 2022. Nice people and good hospitality. Recall having dinner and drinking Blanton's at a place called The Social.
