When I first started they called it “work life flexibility” and I almost laughedI always loved the company line of 'work/life balance'.
You dont love the fully stocked kitchen and yoga classes at 645 pm so you dont ever leave work? But them perks tho. When I first started they called it “work life flexibility” and I almost laughed
What's your #?At my current stage in life, I don’t look at my emails during off hours unless I’m worried about something or something is being pressed for time. But that’s very rare in my current job.
Early in my career, I’d work on the weekends as well as after hours, putting in overtime. But as time went on, I found there wasn’t really any benefit to the extra work I was putting in. So I started to view my job less as how many hours I worked about my responsibilities. So so long I have accomplished my responsibilities, I view myself as doing a good job. And through that, I moved on to a high visibility project at work recently without killing my self.
However, work email stays off my phone. I hate how I have the Microsoft Authenticator on my personal phone, let alone the people I work with have my phone number. People will reach out to my personal phone as opposed to my desk phone, which I have my number in every email. My personal phone should only be used for emergencies, such as closed office or weather.
Nothing dumb about that. Everyone's sitch is different. What's dumb is if anyone tries to say one way is the only way to be successful.I am jealous of most of you. I did not and do not have that opportunity. Seven days a week. I tried to keep it to 1-2 hours on Sunday. Saturday 2-3 hours would be good. Return texts and emails mon-fri until 10 pm.
This culture and the way I manage my career are my choice - nobody made me do this.
Let the name calling and dumb ratings begin.

I agree with that statement. It worked for me.Nothing dumb about that. Everyone's sitch is different. What's dumb is if anyone tries to say one way is the only way to be successful.
Email? Hell I get texts at 10:00 on sunday nights.Does anyone else do this? Work-free weekends are sacred to me and to this point I've refused to engage with my inbox until Monday. But now I'm spending a lot of my Mondays catching up on weekend emails. Not from my coworkers but from external clients, etc. Is there any solution or is this just how it is?
I have zero doubt that's the truth.281-330-8004
The best advice I got was that by doing things like answering emails on the weekend, after hours, immediate responses, etc. is that I’m setting the expectations for whoever is contacting me. If you answer emails on the weekend you’ll just get more next time, and now people will expect a response.
