Another Female Teacher 'Incident'

Since no one else has said it yet...

(Puts on Dr. Drew hat)

She likely suffered a traumatic event in high school, which froze her development, and she is red acting it. There is nothing reasonable about any 25-year-old engaging in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old, much less having 3 of them. There is nothing awesome about this. It's sad.

Sorry to be a buzzkill.

Nothing awesome unless you're one of the 16 year-olds.

I feel like most(all) of you don't have children.

I'm really curious if the responses change had she gotten pregnant and was expecting child support from one of these teens. Or if it had been a male teacher with a female student. Or a male teacher and a male student. Let's throw in a religious school and a student and their religious teacher.....like oh, I don't know, a priest.

I know my feelings about all of those scenarios are the same.

IF someone uses their position of power to seduce children, that's wrong m'kay. I do not feel this is that situation. Consensual sex is consensual sex regardless of gender but that doesn't mean she shouldn't lose her job.

There's not a lot of detail in the article so I'm not sure how you can be confident that you know enough to say she didn't use her position of power to groom these teens.

Even if it was concensual she was their (very attractive) teacher. Of course a bunch of 16 year old boys are going to consent to that. She's still in a position of power over them and in her role that's not acceptable behavior.

Isn't the abuse of power an issue even with college professors and students? It isn't just an age of consent issue for high school. Schools must have policies and are certainly not going to deal with this on a case-by-case basis in advance. Many companies and departments have policies regarding co-workers and certainly regarding supervisors and direct reports.
As someone in that field, absolutely yes. It can be cause for dismissal, especially if that student is taking one of your courses simultaneously.
Professors in relationships with students has happened, and I've seen it first hand. I saw a prof at my undergrad develop a relationship with one of his research students. They kept it pretty quiet, and it didn't get publicized until after she graduated.
I also had a colleague at my first job have a relationship with a student in one of his courses. Her ex complained to administration and he got a big black mark in his file. That along with some other non-compliant behavior led to his dismissal.

Basing my entire position on whats been posted and written about the incident and how hot she is... Not sure you have any additional info that supports your case she groomed the students? Usually one starts with innocent until proven but I go that way many times myself out of reflex. Honestly I don't care - I have zero burden of proof to think what she did is not criminal - other than the law of course.

This is really small potatoes in the medium scheme of things.

I fail to see how what you said somehow discredits what I said.

Her attractiveness is but a bonus not an excuse. Students should not bone teachers and teachers should not bone students. IMHO these are all consenting people (not adults) so loss of job is adequate but criminal penalties seem way severe.

Had this been a male teacher, I would feel exactly opposite and would look at the teacher as preying on young girls. In this case - nope.

This point of view is beyond ****** up. We do not base laws in this country on attractiveness. Nor are women incapable of using positions of power in inappropriate ways.

I would have thought the age of consent in NC was at the highest 16.

It is hard to know really what to feel about these incidents, but if the sex was consensual I don't really see an issue. If she were using coercive control it would be different.

When it is a male teacher we always seem to see the behavior as predatory, it's an attractive female teacher and everybody is high fiving. We have an odd double standard on sex.

My guess is some parents found out, and considering the name of the school is Rocky Mount, I am guessing it is a religious schools. I am sure that has a lot to do with it.

I bet there's three high school kids who disagree. Strongly disagree.

I don't know what wrong with thinking that. We shouldn't have to view the two as the same considering that men are more likely to actually abuse a position of power for sex. Obviously, that's not to say all are and that's not to say women never do - of course they do - but males and females are different in terms of these things and I think it's fair to take it into account.

Why? They're all different scenarios.

Remember the first big sex scandal teach from like 20 years ago? They just got divorced and had like 3 kids after she went to prison. Clearly there was something more there.

Side note: Have you seen the netflix doc The Keepers? Holy hell did I lose a big chunk of my faith in humanity. I have never been so angry as I was during the show.
